Happinesss Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Hi! Wich one to buy? What I want. Cheap Able to play back-ups Best games (love rpgs and adventure, dislike FPS) HDMI-interface (both have it?) In Sweden PS3 is much more expensive, but I have no idea here. I know that you can chip your xbox360 but how is it with Ps3? Any chip? What is the price of a chipped Xbox360 versus chipped? PS3? Can you buy back-ups at sapan lek?
Mozikillah Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 X360 PS3 i believe cannot be 'chipped' yet thus the games are real = 2000-4000 baht Im no fan boy, i would love to have a PS3, just for MGS4..
LivinLOS Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I am not wanting to start any fanboy debates but at this point in time the 360 beats the PS3 hands down IMO.. Maybe as programmers get better with the cell chips that will change but they have been saying that for ages. The games catalogue for the 360 is loads better, new titles worth playing each week or so.. Halo now, sega rally any second, assassins creed in a couple of weeks, virtua fighter 5 same, the hits just keep on coming. 360s can be chipped for copy games (I probably wouldnt be playing if it wasnt) but be very aware that you can get kicked off live and its a non stop cat and mouse game.. Read xbox-scene to follow it.. If you need the HDMI you need to buy an elite (currently, theres some leaked info / rumour that it may be a cable soon)..
Ian_B Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I've read there is a way to play back-ups on PS3 using a Memory stick which has a TIFF file which causes the machine to hang whilst you insert a back-up Blu-ray writable disc Problem is the writable disks are about as expensive as the actual games Also Sony often update their firmware so this may have already been plugged once th PS3 starts selling well the chances of a chip increase as most PS3 game dumps are DVD-9 size with only a few games over that Sony's problem is the lack of exclusives and the quality of these... I made the mistake of buying Lair and found the controls simply horrible (sixaxis controls always are) Still heavenly sword is good in a god-of-war way and I am dying to play PS3 Ratchet and Clank

I'm a lot happier with the ps3. But if you want copied games then go for the 360, you can even download them free from sites if you have a dual-layer burner. I don't mind paying full price anyway now, as a sood game will last you a long time. If you like football games, next month pro evolution soccer 7 comes out and in uk - it is going to be amazing. It's multi region for the ps3, so i will get it from uk. You won't be able to play it on an asian xbox though. As this is the game i will end up playing online, and probably the only game I'll play after october, I'm happy I have a ps3 now. I think you need to look at what game you will be playing on it, then go from there.

Have they specifically locked the region on the game for the xbox360 then? as my experience is that not many games are region locked.
Ian_B Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Only a few of the 360 games are region free but as each game generally come out at the same time worldwide it has not been too much of an issue for the copied games ALL PS3 games are region free which is a very good thing as it makes getting the original games much easier from MBK a few days after release in the US or Japan My 360's are all PAL and I have yet to see any shop that sells the PAL games so I still rely on post from the UK
Happinesss Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 Ok nice. I think I will go for the xbox then. What different models are there (elite?) and at what cost (Bangkok)?
LivinLOS Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Ok nice. I think I will go for the xbox then. What different models are there (elite?) and at what cost (Bangkok)? Read up a little on the different drives and different flash system if your gonna play pirate games.. Not all drives are equal so it helps to get the most workable solution.. Then also be strict about making sure the drive firmware is recent stealth etc if you want to keep live.. Some people are too worried about live to do this but really just a few games is the price of a new console and (touch wood) I still have live access even having flashed drive and copy games since I bought one.. The elite has HDMI which is obviously a plus but it might not have a flashable drive.. May want to check that.
Happinesss Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 I talked with this guy at Seacon, he said that xbox360 had big heating problems. If I by a chipped one I wont have any warranty so it would be nice to know if the xbox really has this problems and will brake? And if it brakes, can you fix it?

And if it brakes, can you fix it? It can break at ANY time.. Its called the '3 rings of death' when 3 red lights show up on the console! It can be fixed.. There is a method, but its not 100% guarantee.. Ive seen some vids on youtube people fixing it with a damp towel over the console for an hour or two?! Go give it some research on Google.com
dttk0009 Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I'm selling my 360 after Mass Effect, and buying a PS3. I'm not even going to bother with Halo 3.
Ian_B Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I have had three xbox 360's break down on me since the console was launched You'd probably get a 3 month guarantee from the shop you buy from After that if it does break it would cost approx 4-5k to get fixed had mine fixed nearly 3 months ago and so far the fixed console has operated flawlessly - not crashed once so am very pleased with this It has been said the 360 has a 30% failure rate but the PS3 & Wii have less than 1% failure rate (I've had PS3 & Wii since launch and can vouch for the reliability)
LivinLOS Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I'm selling my 360 after Mass Effect, and buying a PS3. I'm not even going to bother with Halo 3. Your missing out..
LivinLOS Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 30% sounds way too high.. But I dont know.. Mine has been fine so far.. People I know with them and none have had one die.. Others seem to have had multiples.. But yes, you buy one here and theres no warranty and thats just the way it is..
quiksilva Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) Actually that's not entirely accurate. Microsoft 360 Extended Warranty Update Expanded Xbox 360 Warranty Coverage FAQQ: What are you rolling out that is new? A: While we maintain our one-year console warranty (two years in some countries), Microsoft is extending the terms of its Xbox 360 warranty to three years for certain general hardware failures which are indicated by three flashing red lights on the console. This will apply to new and existing customers and we will retroactively pay back the out-of-warranty repair costs paid by customers for console problems indicated by the three flashing red lights. Q: How does this warranty differ from your existing warranty? A: Currently, any Xbox 360 is covered by a one year manufacturer’s warranty (two years in some parts of the world). If the console is out of warranty, there is a charge to have it repaired. It then comes with an additional one year repair warranty. With these changes, there is effectively a three year warranty with no charge for repair for general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights error code which displays on the console. Q: Is this effective worldwide? A: Yes, these policies are global. The new policies are now being instituted in our customer service centers around the world, which may take a few days to fully implement. Q: When does the policy change go into effect? A: These new policies are now being instituted in our customer service centers around the world, which may take a few days to fully implement. They will apply to new and existing customers. For the latest information, customers should visit Xbox.com. Q: Is there any health or safety issue at play here? A: This is in no way related to any sort of product safety issue. Q: Do I get a refund? A: Yes, we will reimburse any customer who was out of warranty and paid for repairs due issues indicated by the three flashing red lights error message. Customer should expect to receive a check in 10-12 weeks. Q: How does this affect my extended warranty bought from my retailer? A: You’re still covered under your existing warranty for issues outside the scope of this specific three-year warranty. Q: Have you identified a root cause that can lead to failure? A: There is not a single issue that we can point to as being a problem. We test the product extensively, including accelerated life testing, but the nature of the console itself is very complex, as it’s a consumer electronic product that contains more than 1,700 different components and 500 million transistors. There are a variety of scenarios that can cause a general hardware failure. Only the indicator (the three flashing red lights) is always the same. Q: Who do I contact with further questions? A: Please contact your local Xbox Customer Service (1-800-4-MY-XBOX in the US and Canada). Edited September 26, 2007 by quiksilva

Personally, I would never buy another one.
solo siam Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 No Warranty in Thailand on the 360, Microsoft haven't released it here yet so there's no service centre, no official channels etc... I have three xbox 360's and mine have all been fine, mine are Asian ones though if that makes a difference. Wonder if peoples broken 360's are down to no/poor earthing.
Richb2004v2 Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I’ve had my 360 for about 8 months and am very pleased with it. The games keep getting better. At the minute I am playing ‘Bioshock’ which is brilliant. I have the new Medal of honor game waiting. These games cost me 150 baht each! Halo 3 as out soon (or may be out already) and there are a raft of games due. The PS3 probably has some of the same games due out. I would say that the 360 is tried and tested but obviously that is not quite right. The only issue is of course the break down issues. My 360 has been fine but I purposely try not to run it endlessly without a break. However, as the original games are around 2000 baht and I have played around 10 games for many, many hours, at 150 baht a go, I figure if it lasts 18 months and then blows I will have saved 20000 baht on games anyway. There is a cooling fan available for the 360 as a few hundred baht, which is supposed to prevent over heating. I wonder where TUROK is. He would normally have posted a few Nintendo come backs by now.

Guest Reimar Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 May better wait for the new xBox to arrive! Take a look at the article I was just reading: 65nm Xbox 360s starting to trickle out? We've been waiting and waiting, and after months of speculation, a hardware revision, a couple limited editions, and even a new SKU, it looks like Microsoft is finally shipping "Falcon"-equipped Xbox 360s with 65nm CPUs. According to the eagle-eyed posters in the official Xbox forums, Halo edition 360s from lot #734 appear to be the first machines with the new chips, and the time-honored method of peeking inside the case with a flashlight should confirm you have the latest and greatest once you get your baby home. Check the read links for tons more info (and a fun little flamewar). Turok Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Fellas: As you know, I will never purchase a cheapo modded version of the XBox, Play 3 , or Wii. I like the real games. Fake games just don't cut it for me. I am not confident with anyone touching my Wii. I would buy an Xbox but only an original version, no tampered version. Presently playing Metroid Prime 3. Still like MP1 the best. Mario Galaxy soon as well as Super Smash Brawl. DS is still my favorite. Turok
jckei Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 I would also like to know how much a xbox 360 is in Thailand. Anyone knows?
JimsKnight Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 The overheating problems on the Xbox 360 (I have one, no problems) were due to the the chip config. being conducive to overheating (basically the fan cooling wasn't optimal on the 'right' chips in the 'right' area). However running an Xbox 360 in the tropics with no ac turned on and in a confined area (eg on top of a DVD player/VCR/tucked into an alcove etc) is the prime factor for the 3 rings of death. The Xbox Elite has addressed this problem and I haven't heard of them failing (yet!) With the arrival of the Xbox Elite the PS3 has next to nothing on it. The 'look' of the PS3 is nice and 'space-station-esque, but it is bigger and apparently weighs a lot more than the Xbox does. I've heard it is quieter than the Xbox, but then you're paying almost double the price of an Xbox for what should be mind-blowing performance and graphics. The games look exactly the same as the Xbox and the controller is reputed to be quite cheap and nasty compared to the Xbox's. Right now Sony is at a bit of a disadvantage, they have unleashed the best they can come up with but it hasn't quite been the breakthrough everyone was expecting. Now the Xbox Elite comes along to counter it further and it will be quite some time before Sony will bring out the PS4, by which time the next-gen Xbox will of arrived beforehand. A final key factor in the Sony Vs Xbox battle is that the Xbox will have full cross-compatibility with PCs in the very near future (see Shadowrun) and it is something that Sony hasn't got a shade of a chance with. My advice, get an Xbox!

One can get a 360 about 10-12k in Thailand?
