I will be going to Penang later next month on business, whilst there I will need to visit the Thai Consulate to get some documents notarised.

It has been years since I was last in Penang ( 1969 I think) and have obviously no idea of the area now. I would like to take 3-4 days there and combine the business with a bit of pleasure, so with this in mind, I need a 3-4 Star Hotel within easy distance from the Consulate etc. I dont need a beach resort just a decent solid hotel in the city area.

might not get many reccos from this forum...most of us just go to penang for visa runs and stay in the old town/chinatown/little india area. don't know if there are any hotels near the thai counselate as it is in a residential area. lots of hotels on the coast and in the aforementioned areas...some 3-4 star. i stayed at the e&o hotel and that is really nice and great location (it's an old british "empire" hotel ala raffles in singapore). i would just do on a hotel booking site (asia travel or asia rooms) and look at reccos in the area you want.

stay around the comtar or churlia street ,20 ringget for taxi to the consulate ,many hotels ranging from 700 -4000b ,take your choice .
