LoveLife Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 We are planning to rent a sailboat with captain. Does anybody have any knowledge of an outfit called Thida Yachting Co., Ltd they sail out of Ko Chang. Here is there web site. Thida Yachting Co. web site We were coming over last year, in January, going on Gulf charters, and cancelled because of the bombing in Bangkok. They would not refund our deposit or give us credit for 9 month latter so I am sour on them. Also what should a cab from Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok cost?

Taxi from airport into town depends a lot on where exactly you are going, assume at least 200b would be about right. The Thida boats look like rubbish 4KSBs to the max degree; Gulf Charters may have let you down once, but their fleet is considerably better than these two horrid beasts. If I were you, I would go for a multihull and sail that, much more pleasant as the sloops that most of the charter operations have worldwide are horrid beneslaus and the like which are just a bit slow and the cats give you a ton of room. I would talk again to Gulf Charters; obviously there was no force majeur and the bombs in Bangkok (one at my work) were a non event compared to the scale of natural/non natural disasters worldwide, so it is pretty tough to expect that they would refund; however a credit or slight discount in the non peak season might be doable; maybe you can persaude them....however in Jan you would expect them to have already been turning customers away, it is a highly seasonal business. I don't think there is any other operator, maybe you could try sunsail, but I am fairly sure sunsail is only in Phuket. Koh Chang is beautiful some of the year; depends on timing. I have a boat at Ocean Marina, feel free to ask any other questions about sailing around here ;-)
LoveLife Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Thank you for the taxi information. Maybe I should add some more information that has a big influence on my decision. $$$. From Gulf I can afford either their Beneteau Sloop - 32' or a 31-foot cat that is stripped no fridge, no shade just sails, and a bunks. Either of these boats are $1,420.00 for three days. From Thida Yachting Co., Ltd I can afford the Shearwater 41’ private for 3 days or the Thida 44’ Ketch open tour 3 couples for 3 days. I know these boats are 22 years old but as long as they are sea worthy, I do not have a problem. Besides a 40+ ketch should be able to move smartly. One more thing I have only been sailing on these types of boats 10 times in 44 years. The tiem period 04/12.07 -06/12/07 What does 4KSBs mean? We are planning to rent a sailboat with captain.
