Urgent Advice Needed:

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

we are in need of some urgent advice regarding the currently most 'user friendly' place to go for our non immigrant visas - (this is our first 'visa run' of any kind).

We are a family of four living in Chiang Mai - (for just over two months) - and we have a 20 month old toddler, so long bus trips are out of the question - and wherever we go we will have to fly - so we're concerned as much about costs as anything else.

We've heard that Vientaine is quite 'do-able' via Nok Air but I have no idea whether it is a good place to apply or not.

The game plan at this point is that my wife, who has a teaching job, is applying on the strength of her work permit and she will be sponsoring our youngest son.

Our eldest son is at school - the school is supplying the required paperwork for him - and I am basically applying - (on the strength of his education visa) - for a non Imm 0 visa.

Hopefully the above will take care of the four of us.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

regards,

Phil & Sue - (resrea).

Can you tell us what visas you are currently on ?

Hi,

we are currently on tourist visas - we have just extended our two month visas for another 30 days - at Chiang Mai immigration.

Many thanks,

Phil.

Sorry, you say your wife has a job and a work permit but only a tourist visa ? Did she go and get or will go and get a non immigrant B visa (from outside Thailand) for her work permit ?

Phil, I do not know if this of help to you, but Vientiane seems a pretty good place to start with. Even if your WP (blue booklet) is not yet available, take all other available teaching papers (especially your contract) with you once the tourist visa is up and ask Vientiane for a Single (90 days) Non-B-Visa. I know of two Non-B-Visa holders doing this. One has been doing it for now over a year (4 consecutive Non-B-Visas), but on his last visit he was told to bring along next time a Work Permit, which he just got in late August 2007. The other guy, a teacher btw, is now on his first Single Non-B-Visa from Vientiane and is right now working on his Work Permit. You have to do these 90-days-visa runs to Vientiane until the Non-B-Visa and the Work Permit are both in place. You should also work and concentrate on your tax filing and payment. Only this tax business will eventually avoid those visa runs to Vientiane and allow you to extend your stay for a year at an immigration within the country.
