A recent thread about repainting a late model car has me wondering about my CBR150. The right fairing still has the scrapes from the fall in 2005, and I think the decals were too busy in the first place. So I'd like to consider:

Repainting only the middle side fairings to a single color like red or black, to match the colors above and below. Perhaps the top edge of the bottom fairing(s) would also need about 20 cm of repaint to a different color. Get rid of the decals.

Or, repainting the whole enchilada a very shocking neon green, pink, or orange.

It's a 2003 model, red and black and white and silver (not the Repsol paint job), and I don't need perfection.

I'd be looking for a shop in Chiang Mai. It's not worth 20K in resale value now.

I have the same bike and I will be painting as well when I return from Canada in November. I just had my jeep done; full paint job with some body work too, only 20,000. From this I make the assumption that something as simplistic as a CBR would be around 5000. For a simple job even less. I plan to design some custom decaling first and then have the decals added before the clear coat. I am going for a candy purple with a bit of a tribal fire motif.

I think you should definitely go for shocking colors, it’s a sport bike, let it be wild. Sorry I can’t help about location, I only know this shop in Chonburi.

Concur with canuckamuck, the full job should be 4-5,000. I had my vfr repainted a few weeks ago here

in chiang mai, a three-colour job + some stickers. I excluded the rear panel (from under the seat and

backwards) and cost was 3,500, so probably 5,000 if I had done the rear too.

The vfr is a bit bigger than than the cbr though, so I'd think closer to 4,000 for that.

I did have to wait quite a while though, over two weeks. The shop complained about the rain.

Would think a shop that does this kind of business would have an indoor area too, but ...;-)

Shocking green would be unique for a CBR, but I would leave the frame grey though, and maybe keep the bottom section of the fairing black. It’s a good place for the Honda logo. I think they got that part right. Send us a pic when it gets done.

I don't know. I've written a novel in which the second volume has two incredibly famous men in Thailand on flash color Suzukis, and green just sounds so....so...so Kawasaki, you know? Oh wait; you're right: in his first appearance in Thailand, the older guy does drive a green Suzuki the same color as the swimsuit he wore when swimming with Sub Comandante Marcos, in Chiapas....maybe that's it.

Hi there :o

Is it now legal to change the vehicle colour in Thailand? A while ago when i was wondering why there are so few (read "none") bikes or cars with custom paint jobs here, i was told that it was illegal - as indeed the colour is entered in the vehicle's registration (as opposed to the engine's power, funny enough).

I too would like to change my Bulldozer (Yamaha RXZ) from black to something more fairy-like - i actually favour pink. However if that means trouble with cops i won't.

Any information on this..? I would appreciate it :D

Thanks in advance.....

A friend of mine recently got his car repainted, and yes, indeed, you gotta get your registration book. About power, not sure, but he also put a new motor in the car and that had to be registered as well.

I showed the bike to my partner yesterday, and he also understands we have to go change the registration book, but while he doesn't know the details, he thought it might be possible. Then we noticed that what I hate most about the factory paint job, and what is most scratched, are decals. He thinks decals can be removed rather effortlessly, and the paint below it is first quality, even the color I want. Or, the color change I would want (back to more solid tones) is easy to do on the removable panels, in a couple of days.

It's a used bike, 47K km, and I don't want to spend over 5,000 baht.

Somebody asked to hear the results. We chickened out after we spent 200 baht having a pro take off the gaudy decals on the front side panels. It really helped! I'm still tempted to remove the rear 150F decals as well, which would make the bike look more like a CBR400! I never did like spashy off color graphics.

Hello :o

Dear, 200 Baht to remove a STICKER..????? (Decal = sticker) Please, send me your bike, i'll remove all of them for 199 Baht apiece :D

If you get to Tesco or Carrefour, buy a hair dryer (the cheapest available as long as it has a "warm air" function). Back home, crank it up and warm up those decals - to the point they get somewhat soft. And now - the magic moment - using a fingernail, just peel the thing off. Almost done.

IF there's leftovers from the "sticky stuff" which often part with stickers in such process, use brake cleaner to remove that - just spray the area with the cleaner, and wipe it off with a rag.

Done :D

Same goes for removing ANY sticker from ANY surface.

Kind regards.....

Right, Thanh. We had four stickers removed for 200 baht total, including the cleaning fluid that didn't affect the factory paint job underneath. My boyfriend started with a cheap hair dryer in the driveway, at the end of a twenty meter cheap extension cord, which wasn't working very fast. You can do it yourself for ten satang of electric power.
