Upgraded to Etihad Silver on their frequent flyer programme. Got the card through today and also tags for luggage.

Seems you get lounge access, 25% extra flyer miles on economy, pre booking of seats for self and family/friends, priority on queuing and an extra 10 kilo of baggage allowance (on some routes).

There are other benefits of course but for the sake of logging on to Etihad web site and registering I would not have these extra benefits.

Added to that they have always been the cheapest airline for me to fly with so far.

Next comes Gold and I am now not that far off.

I did read somewhere that Etihad offer the best loyalty programme.

So, if you do fly frequently and are not a member of your favourite airline then for the sake of logging on, seems it is the thing to do.

My wife and I flew Etihad last year and were well impressed, nice new Airbus and the short stop over at Abu Dhabi was a welcome leg stretch on the LHR-BKK route.

Will be using them again in January this year, not sure best way to secure cheapest flight ticket, book now or wait?

Got a quote from ThaiVisa but it wasn't competative....WWW.Lastminute.com was cheaper!

I'm Silver with them as well, became so ''half way'' between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok on my last trip. While I was in BKK I got an email with a letter to print out confirming my new status and instructing check in staff to give me lounge access and extra baggage on my return trip. Fine at BKK and in AUH I was sat at 4 in the morning eating an amazing Biryani and drinking champagne! I do wish though that they had more airline partners (apart from SN Brussels)

I'm curious. Was the extra 10 kilos on top of the usual 30 kilos they let you have on their long haul trips to BKK?

Champagne? Can't stand the stuff, but the rest sounds good to me. Pity I will get my gold card sent to the UK address while I am away but the silver card tags for my luggage might come in handy when I am in a queue waiting to check in.

Looking at the praise Etihad get from TahiVisa I think we should start some form of group to get bigger discounts :o
