I believe that I can just pop down to the local dept. of labour where it was issued & get it cancelled whilst I wait, no fees to pay & they will issue me with a cancellation note/ receipt type document of some sort. I just did this last week in Bangkok, so here is the info. You yourself can return your own work permit. And thery will issue you with a receipt. No fees at all. Your employer also has to notify the labor dept within 15 days, but that it a separate issue.

But if you want a chuckle, listen to this. When I went down to the labor dept with my WP, my school asked me to hand in their official letter of notificatiion at the same time in order to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. And guess what? The clerk cancelled my WP, gave me my receipt, and then handed me back the official notification letter saying only a Thai could submit it. Go figure. The pecking order in this world seems to be intact. A Thai can be a messenger for a farang. but a farang cannot be a mesenger for a Thai!

That's cos a farang can't be employed to do a job that a Thai can do.

And what about your visa?

If your WP is cancelled and you were issued a visa (non-imm on the grounds that you were going to be employed by a company that takes responsibility for you don't you have the visa cancelled also when the WP is cancelled?

A visa entry or visa itself is not cancelled - but if you have an extension of stay based on employment that will end.
