HELP please! I need to get a Thai TV,and would like to book the Thaivisa Penang package advertised, but

when I go to the advert page,it is unclear how exactly to do it.I was given a regular quote for a flight/hotel,but

it will be my first time in Penang, and I'd appreciate very much the assistance advertised (ie: airport, transportation, office in Penang to fill in app. taken to hotel, etc etc.) Is this service still available, and can I book it? My last day allowed in LOS is Oct 11...or do I have to book something on my own?

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated,

Khun George,

Thank you for prompt reply, but I already

got a quote. That quote is for my own flight/hotel.

I'm a bit nervous,as I've never been to Penang,and would

like to know if I'm on my own,or would there be a Thaivisa rep

assisting with transportation from airport to office to fill app/drop passport, etc.

Many thanks,

I don't know the details of the travel products. You have to ask them.

Get plane, get taxi to embassy, fill in paper, pay, same taxi go hotel, sleep, get taxi, go embassy, go airport, get plane.

What is complicated about that ? It doesn't come much, sorry, any easier.

Have to agree. It is really simple.

and your on your own.I can walk down to Beach Rd.and do THAT.

Thanks Thaivisa for the great advert.

Mel2surf, I just had a look at Thaivisa's Penang package. It's all layed out in detail and easy to follow. They pick you up at the airport and hold your hand through the whole visa process.

They'll be waiting for you at the airport with a big sign with your name on it.

Ok, now that you've decided to go it alone I would recommend that you email the "newbananaguesthouse" and have them pick you up at the airport. They will have your TV application lodged before the midday deadline.

They have backpacker style accommodation available for between 18 and 55 RM per night.

It's important that you lodge your application on time, and they're very efficient and friendly.

They charge 20 RM for the airport pickup. If they're picking up other people from the same flight (quite likely) they charge even less (150).

The visa will cost you 110 RM and their service charge will be 20 RM.

So you could get by on:

taxis (to and from airport): 40 RM

Visa: 130

Accommodation (3 nights): 108

Food (2 days): 100

Total: 378 RM

More if you like more expensive food and accommodation.

Local vendors only take ringgit. Either exchange some baht at a money changer or use your ATM card. If you use Banana Guesthouse, you can pay everything in one go before you're about to leave, in which case you'll only need ringgit for food.

I'd like to avoid a "backpacker" joint, and stay somewhere

decent (sans cockroaches, noisy partiers, etc) if possible

since I will be there Mon-thur. Any suggestions?

thx again

LOL, Mel I dont blame you. Avoid those fleabag backpacker dumps at all costs. If I were you I would do the following:

1. arrive in Penang airport

2. change 500 baht to ringget at changer there

3. go to taxi booth and pay for a taxi to the Swiss Hotel. out front of this hotel is where NJ Books is located

4. Hand in passport at NJ Books. He will change your baht there and give you a good rate and take care of your visa

5. Walk up to the main road where the cititel hotel is located (ask NJ Books guy where that is)

6. Take a right on that main road and there will be the Hotel Continental and a few mid priced (900 baht) hotels on your right about a half a click down

7. thats all you have to do. simple quick easy. no cockroaches, rats, hassles, time wasting

Let's not make "cockroach, flea" accusations about the Banana guesthouse. I stayed there for 2 days, and although it's no palace, it's clean without fleas, rats and cockroaches. Obviously you're ignorant about backpacker style accommodation, because cheap does not guarantee fleas, rats or cockroaches....it just indicates basic without luxuries.

Your advice about cruising down the street to find mid-priced (900 baht) hotels toward Hotel Continental is not good, and you say "no time wasting"...get real, you'll be wasting a lot of time doing that. They are no longer 900 baht, and there's a good chance that they are all fully booked. If you do find a vacancy, the price will be well over 1000. Who wants to cruise around looking for mid-priced hotels in a new town on a first visit?

You're doing the same as you did on another thread. Giving historical rates that no longer exist...give it a break.

The best advice is to book something before you arrive.

Mel, I've done this myself i.e. walked around looking for mid-priced vacancies in Penang, and on that occasion there were no vacancies.

I beg to differ. I walked into the Continental 3 months ago and there were plenty of vacancies as well as another mid priced Hotel along the way. Continental was 900 baht walk in and the other was 800. Also, the OP made it clear that he wished to avoid backpacker dumps, cant say I blame him

I also beg to differ. Either you were lucky on the occasion that you walked around, or you are bs'ing. On a previous thread you've already shown yourself up by quoting prices well under the current rates.

Either way, you're either lucky to find vacancies or your not. It's better not to leave it to luck and plan ahead.
