You can get a vip bus from morchit at 8.30pm for 700 baht gets you to Nong Khai for 6am. Then it's a short tuk tuk drive to the border. Vientiane is a sound place to vist...many farang...good food and good beer. Regards Block

I got a 3-entry TV there last August (2006) and no financials were required. They are still not asking for proof of funds. Perhaps you may try an agent if you visit Penang again. Fred Sanford Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I've been going to Penang for TVs since early '04 and was never asked to show bank statements. I used NJ Books visa agent each time

When I went 2 weeks ago there were no signs or warnings about the 3 and yer out new rules. Sorry i cant be of any more help...but goodluck regards Block
Joel Barlow Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Last time I did a run to Vientianne must have been 1999. I had to stay in Vientianne a few nights, unlike most other places. Years before that, I had to stay several nights in Penang too. But for a tourist visa, that seems absurd. Overnight, I can accept and understand. are 2 or 3 nights still necessary? you do still need to stay at least overnight, right? can you get your Lao visa easily in NongKhai? how much? I don't have to go for a couple months yet, but sure want to know!
lopburi3 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 One night stay if no holidays involved and you arrive in morning to submit application and pick up next afternoon. Believe they want 1,000 baht for Lao visa at border and it is easy to cross/enter.
sjaak327 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Yep only one night stay is required at Vientiane (providing you show up during the week and there are no holidays either Lao or Thai), Lao visa is depending on nationality, pay in USD, as the baht value is much higher, for instance for me it's 35 USD, if paying in baht they require 1500 baht...
Joel Barlow Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Wow! Just like MaeSai/Tachilek!!! definately best to plan ahead. Thanks guys. As I recall, Vientianne can be a lot of fun, after changing gears down and slowing up enough... even from the sedate pace of life in ChiangRai! I'm looking ofrward to driving thru Loei and UdonThaini City. And hear there are very nice guest houses in NongKhai now. How easy is it to find cheap and decent accomodation in Vientianne/ a hotel I used to stay in there was great - when you truned the air con on, extractor fans also automatically started up...
fauxie Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I've been going to Penang for TVs since early '04 and was never asked to show bank statements. I used NJ Books visa agent each time NJ have always come through for me, every single time. I never take anything for granted but they're pretty good at being straight up and efficient.
ryosuke Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I just heard from my friend that friend of my friend went Penang for his 3rd tourist visa and he got a red stamp. I didn't ask him whether he use agent there or not, My friend is planning to visit Penang for his 3rd one for the end of this month. Does any one have more information about getting tourist visa in Penang?
