I thought that the Lexitron definition gets to what you are looking for:

[Correct me here but I think this is a social class or business hierarchy issue, not an age issue. Perhaps a better translation of this sentence would be:

"It's unbelievable that such a lower level person like her can socialize with so many persons senior to her."

david has already included it, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is:

พบปะเพื่อนฝูง = meet up with friends

i'd prefer this if you're saying, for example,

"he likes to socialize"

เขาเป็นคนชอบพบปะเพื่อนฝูง

and i'd prefer david's suggestion if you're talking about associating or mingling with particular people.

ps. in response to tonybkk, in my understanding คบ refers more to the state of being friends with someone. so, เขาไม่มีใครคบเป็นเพื่อน means 'he has no friends' or, more loosely, 'nobody wants to be his friend' and 'จะคบหาใครก็ให้ระวัง' means 'be careful who you befriend'.

It seems to me that in context the implication of the example is that a junior person in a company fraternizing with the executive members; I suppose there are many potential contexts, from corporations to the military. Yes, in the context it could very well might mean that an employee who is really a "nobody" in the company should not be socializing with the big shots.

'informal' and 'friendly' cover most usages, eg.บรรยากาศเป็นกันเอง = an informal atmosphere (eg. in a restaurant)

however, you will also sometimes see ราคาเป็นกันเอง = good prices, low prices, prices that are easy to handle. 'mate's rates' is a tempting translation, but ราคาเป็นกันเอง doesn't imply any familiarity between buyer and seller.
