It's now official, this from breaking Sky News:

"Obese people in the UK have generally got bigger in the last decade a Cancer Research UK study has concluded, women's waist circumference has increased by 4.35cms.

It also discovered that the proportion of women under 45 who were morbidly obese had doubled over the 10-year period - as did the proportion of women with a Body Mass Index of more than 40.

Professor Jane Wardle, director of Cancer Research UK's health behavior unit and study leader, said: "We found that weight gain in the population has been unequally distributed".

Unbelievable but true - For those complaining about living in LOS and planning to return to the UK, you have been warned.

I do believe this topic would be against forum rules...inciting negative comments toward females etc. Moderators??

Factual reporting from Sky News. The health implications of obesity are only now beginning to be fully understood and the public at large warned as to the negative health implications. Despite the trends awareness trend it seems that the situation is only getting worse and the female population in particular is not taking the appropriate remedial action. Nothing whatsoever negative about those things from a discussion stand point although obviously there's lots of negative issues associated with it from a health standpoint. I therefore do not believe this would be against forum rules.

Well thanks for the warning, but I do believe I am quite able to become wider waisted anywhere in the world, I definitely do not need to go back to my home country that's for sure. It all depends on lifestyle choices and not where you live, or was it referring only to UK women? Interesting to note there are no figures(pun intended) for the actual proportions it refers to.

Same problems in many places.

Obesity in Asia mirrors western increase

High-fat, high-calorie foods are contributing to Asia's burgeoning obesity problem.

The rapid modernisation of China and other Asian countries has produced an alarming spike in the rate of obesity and diabetes among their populations, experts warned today.

The UK-based International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) said Asian countries were now encountering rises in childhood obesity which are congruent with that of western countries, such as the UK.

Tim Gill, the IOTF's Asia-Pacific director, said the rate of obesity among Asian children was increasing by about 1% each year, roughly the same rate as in Britain, the US and Australia. Paul Zimmet, the chairman of the IOTF, said: "It's a social and economic disaster."

I think OP has just stated the facts as reported. From there it depends on how you view life: You often find what you're looking for. If you look for the negative in something you'll find it. But the reverse also applies.

For guys who like fat or obese women, this is excellent news for them, and a real positive. :o

I think it's a fact that obesity is a problem that is increasing everywhere, not only females but males also.

Even in Thailand you see many more fat people than you used to.

In the UK it is certainly a problem, if you don't believe it ask any nurse (they have to lift them) or any surgeon (they have to cut through the fat). Sounds a bit gruesome but it's true and I think to a certain extent exacerbated by the political correctness of not being able to call someone fat etc I don't see the problem with calling someone fat; fat or thin it's just a fact.

If you are obese its not Western influence, Mcdonalds influence or the fault of modern living it is because you are a lazy and eat too much.

Hmm, I don't think so. There's two types of people in this world, ectomorphs and endomorphs and neither one really has too much control over the amount of weight (body fat) they can gain or lose. Emerging data suggests that an inclination towards either disposition is genetically controlled and that exersize and diet do not play as larger role as preciously believed.

I would like to stick my carbon footprint up your a.. for a comment like that.

Children must have all genetically evolved dramatically in the last 15-20 years as when i were a lad, kids were eating fresher food, walking to school and playing football there was only 1 fat kid per class to bully, when i go and pick my friends kids up, a good 25% of the kids are podgy to say the least.

And it is always the fat as <deleted> mother with the fat as <deleted> kid.

I say mother as it is her that usually feeds the kid.
