Can some please write the following in Thai, a Thai Would be good so its FACTUAL, so I can copy it and post it on my entrance doors TA

It is POLITE to knock on the door and SHOUT “ HELLO HELLO” before you walk into a house.

Or better still this below

It is <deleted> rude to just walk into someone’s house without being invited to do so.

(1)IF the door is closed – Knock the door or ring doorbell and WAIT for the house owner to come and open the <deleted> thing.

(2)IF the door is open – Knock the door and shout HELLO HELLO and wait for a response from the house owner.

Reason for this note:-

I maybe sitting <deleted> naked in MY OWN HOUSE as the Old lady next door has just found out. If you want a cheap frill then carry on as before.

Always amazes me that farangs want to live in Thailand, and have Thai wives, and even live in Thai villages, but not even bother to learn the language.

Might be one way to help understand the culture?

I'm just sayin'...

Learnin' to speak the language ain't the same as writin' it. Sure the whole enchilada is better, but just speaking alone'll put you in the top 5-10% of Farangies.

As for barging in...... well.... what to say ? It happens. I was just sittin' around sweaty in my boxers doing some writing on ye olde internet today when the landlord comes by to show a repairman something she wants fixed on the side of the house. Gave me a start an unannounced open of the creaky gate and the voices right outside...more than one person. What could it be ? Oh well. Grab a shirt, throw on some old shorts, and look presentable and it's fine.

However I also have a neighbor that looks after me and brings me an extra bowl of this gaeng or that to eat quite often. She often catches me by surprise in various stages of undress watching tv or reading internet on a hot day. C'est la vie. Actually,....maybe she does that on purpose ? Not that I'm some prize in me boxer shorts; that's for sure.

Yeah, but learnin' about 20 words ain't the same as actually learnin' to speak the language, either.

Otherwise, I could say that I speak at least 17 different languages...

Wouldn't quite be FACTUAL, though.

Cheers.

Here is not the exatly translation of "It is POLITE to knock on the door and SHOUT " HELLO HELLO" before you walk into a house.", but it politely means the same . You can copy and print it for putting on the entrance.

---->> "กรุณาเคาะประตูและขออนุญาตก่ิอนเข้าบ้าน"

I think it would be fine now.

---->> "กรุณาเคาะประตูและขออนุญาตก่ิอนเข้าบ้าน" It makes sense ; however, I add some word according to the 1 ) and 2 )

กรุณาเคาะประตูหรือกดออด และขออนุญาตก่ิอนเข้าบ้าน (ไม่ว่ากรณีประตูบ้านจะเปิด หรือ ปิด)

Also it may be the local culture to NOT be naked. This may be especially true in the rural areas as each house may have multiple family members, anyone may come in at any time.

Rural Thai uses "pa-kao-ma" which enables him to be near naked or leterally naked in seconds if need be. Otherwise he is presentable.

Someone forgot to tell the old ladies who walk around in their bras or topless that one, stateman.

The only people that walk straight into private houses where I live are immediate family --parents, children. A neighbor who is not family generally does not walk straight into a seemingly empty house but rather stands at the threshold and calls out. Or at least, that's true where I live. Perhaps my neighbors and my in-laws' neighbors are different in that respect.

Is that why the old ladies in the country walk around in their bras or topless?

I always wonder why they do that! :o

I agree with you. I believe that is also practiced in the city, especially in Bkk. I never live in the village. I wonder what are the experience of TV members who live in the village. Would someone care to share?
