Well my 2 week vacation is up but this was a productive one. My Thai gf and I found a great condo in central BKK for 8 mil and we will transfer on it in a few months. I'm a working stiff in the UK so I won't be able to be here to do it so I need to wire this cash to her to get this transfer done. We are also building a beautiful house in Udon (her parents gifted us the land!) for 4 mil and I will need to take care of this in coming months. I have read a lot of things on the forum about a 20K USD transfer limit and this has me concerned as obviously I wish to transfer much more than that. I have a Bangkok Bank savings account that I just opened but will she be able to access that for these purchases? Or do I have to make the transfer(s) to her account? Any advice on how to get this done for smooth transactions would be helpful. I'm leaving BKK tomorrow (arrgh!). I will feel so much better when all this gets done so I can relax knowing we have our homes all set up for when I make the big move late next year when I retire and get married. Thanks everyone in advance.

I'm sure that you can easily transfer all the money you can possibly lay your hands on, to your girlfriends account here in Thailand. She will supply you with all the information you need. Do not worry the money will arrive in one or two days. It's very easy. You can also rest assured that this is probably the wisest decision you have ever made in your life, and you probably have a lot of spare time in the future to bask in the memory of such a wise decision. Good luck to you, you are truly brave and adventurous. You are truly the high quality of Farang the country needs, and is looking for.

You should request a forum name change, from 'Cheech & Chong' to 'Cheech & Chong The Brave'. Seriously, how long have you known your girlfriend?

Agree to the above sentiment.

As for your question, I just transfered 30K (1 Mil Thb) in one transaction to my own account in Thailand. They didn't withhold anything. At the time of transfer, I put condo purchase in the info field. This within the last month.

Come on guys, lighten up. My gf is a good girl, not a bar girl. She works in a travel agency office and I've known her for nearly 2 years since I met her booking a ticket back then. Ok so I haven't spent much time with her, about 12 weeks worth of 2 week vacations. I've been a member of this forum for 2 years and read it almost daily. I have been inspired by the numerous successful marriages and trust that I read about. I ignore the negativity as I see it as just a wind up. I trust my gf, I call her a few times a week and she's always home or in the office. I think even some of you who responded here have trusting and faithful marriages (rainman?). I'm wondering how you can question my situation. I know many of you have built Issan home and bought condos with your wives and are living happily ever after. Me I am 50 and will retire early. I have a lot of cash so I am going to invest in this Thailand real estate. I think it's a good move and want to get started now before moving here as prices are always going up. cheers

Good girl or not, I'd certainly be putting the condo in my name BEFORE I got married. The house will be in her name so if things go pear shaped you still have one place. The horror stories outnumber the happy stories so why do you want to belong to the my girl is different group?

Maybe the Brit losing 17 million inspired a "story"?

Just a moment. You claim to have all this money to buy property in Thailand, found a condo for a stagering amount of 8 million baht, land and building a house for 4 million baht, you have a Bangkok Bank account and yet you dont know how to transfer money over from the UK?

Your girlfriend`s parents cannot gift you land , because you are a foreigner, the land is gifted to their daughter, not you.

I am not flaming you, but wonder if you know what you are doing sending this huge amount of money to your Thai girlfriend.

Please be careful Sir, remember 12 million will keep a Thai for life, the stakes are high. Mugs get taken in every minute.

Maybe the girl friend is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but you realize that in Thailand road accidents are quite common. Do you know what happens to the money or property if she is killed in an accident. This evens applies ( to some degree ) if you have a registered marriage. A trip back to Thailand to handle details in a prudent manner may be in order, before sending large cash transfers to your gf. Just my intial thoughts on the orginal question.

I think you should use an escrow service, whereby these funds sit in a different bank account until this condo is definitely signed in your name. I happen to know a very good escrow service. The company is called 'Honest Simon's escrow service'. I can email you the bank account details if you like.

This man is a genius. No better response could ever be given to the self lieing "we are happily married" brigade

I think you are correct. This guy can't be for real or he's loaded with money & it doesn't matter to throw away 12 million. Maybe he's the twin brother of the guy who is crying about losing 17 million.

I cannot think of a better time and safer investment to make than Thailand real estate with a gf that I have known 12 weeks. Good luck but sorry I have to cut this short as some men in white jackets have just come to take me away. :o
