think_too_mut Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) While A-380 is great, for long time to come most of us are stuck with what's been around for 10+ years. I had bad luck to get onto TG644 BKK-NGO 2 weeks ago. The seats on that particular B777 (HS-TJE) were thin and felt like made for Asian body size. Just over 5 hours flight was bearable, can't imagine more than that. There was a story that initially all TG B777s were fitted with seats made by a local contractor and that re-fitting them with real ones was in progress. I have been on 4 777s so far, this one was the most spartan. http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b777-27730.htm Edited October 17, 2007 by think_too_mut
britmaveric Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Wow - no seatback video??? Thats normally standard on 777, seems TG is being cheap.

Never seen seatback video on any of their 777s. But this one has home made seats, that's what makes it look even worse. Edited October 17, 2007 by think_too_mut
ozymandious Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 every 777 I've been on had video seat backs. cheap homemade seats indeed
think_too_mut Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 every 777 I've been on had video seat backs. Me too. Only TG 777s have no video in seats.
cdnvic Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 That's because yet another hiso had to get a piece of the action at the expense of the country.
think_too_mut Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 I flew BKK-MEL return on a TG 777 and it had seatback TVs. TG has 19 of them...when I last heard, 6 were refitted with real seats. Some may be newer and came like that.
cdnvic Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Let's just be glad when they were handing our favours to marginal yet well connected local manufacturers that they chose a place that made seats, not engines.

BKK to Kathmandu is only 3 and bit hours but I was squirming for about 2 hours of it. Probably the most uncomfortable aircraft seats I've ever experienced - even worse than BA and that's saying something!!!!
onethailand Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Those seats look familiar. I have this feeling they run the same aircraft on the BKK-MNL-OSA route. Makes you wonder if these aircraft are reserved for Japan-bound flights for some reason... you could be right about the Asian angle.
rainman Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Those seats looks scary close to each other. I'm 1.92m tall and have quite long legs. Many airlines are a nightmare for me on long flights because I hit the seat in front of me with my legs, which causes the person in front of me also some discomfort because they cannot put their seat down.

Operated TG644 a few days earlier, same route.
