My 3 yr old daughter and I are here in Bangkok and need to get our 30 day tourist visa extended. I was planning on taking one of the bus runs but I keep getting conflicting information on her status. We both have US passports, but different companies have told me that children have no overstay penalty and she can just stay for however long, that I can just bring her passport and photo and leave her at home, others politely said that 3yr olds are not particularly welcomed on the bus trips.... so then what? I can't seem to get the correct info, but I can't believe she doesn't fall under all the other US passport holders rules just as if she were an adult. Could someone please help me out as I have been on the internet trying to find info about children and am having no luck. Thank you, thank you!!!!

You obtain extensions of stay from Immigration, not bus runs, so will assume you are talking about obtaining a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp. Children are indeed exempt from overstay charges so it is not a big deal to keep there visa current - they will receive an overstay stamp on departure but there will be no fine or harsh words - it is expected.

For a start you do not have a Tourist Visa. What you have is a Visa Exempt Stamp. You do not extend it, you have to either do a border run and get another one or go to a Thai Embassy in another country and buy a Visa.

By all acounts if your child did neither of these she would get an overstay mark but would not be fined.

I'm sorry, you are right I do have a plain old visa exempt entry stamp. Need to get my terminology correct before I ask questions. So, thank you, this will be a much more pleasant trip alone. I was confused since her passport was stamped just like mine amd wanted to make sure I did all that was required. Thank you.

Sorry about using the wrong terminology. One less person to worry about. Thank you for your quick response.
