Hi,

Does anyone know any common Thai spellings of a Thai surname "Umphet"? I appreciate that there may be many many ways to write this but if anyone knows how this may be commonly spelt then that would be very helpful.

Thanks

Thanks David,

But I'm guessing it starts with something like อุ or อู as it definitely has a long or short 'oo' sound at the beginning (rhymes with "who"). What do you think?

It's probably อุ้มเพชร From googling, this surname got a lot of hits.

I've just had someone give me อุ่มเพชร which is very similar to your kind suggestion Yoot. I'll try googling this to see how common it is.

Thank you for your help

I would like to point out that the right answer you're looking for isn't necessary to be the most common one or the one with highest hits... In fact, there might not even have common way of spelling...since Thai surnames are quite unique and might be used only by a few people in each family. For example, my surname which is used only by like... less than 20 people in the whole world... and could be confused with other ones with similar spelling.
