Heavy Cream, Uht

Featured Replies

I would very much like to buy some of the UHT whipping (heavy) cream somebody (sbk?) mentioned in another thread here. But I have a problem in the UHT dairy aisle, being unable to read any Thai. Can anybody snap and post a picture of the heavy cream container so I can try to match it at the store?

I also need to know how I can tell the difference between boxes of powdered milk and baby formula. I have a number of recipes that use powdered milk, and need the stuff. Last time I chose the box with a preggers lady on it and not an actual baby, but that's a pretty rudimentary way to choose.

It says whipping cream on it in english too, at least the ones here do. Anchor makes it, I can take a pic tomorrow when I go to town, if you need. It comes in two sizes, a small blue box about the size of drinking milk and a big 1l box that is white with blue on it. The small box runs about 85 baht. The big one, 200+ (sorry can't remember the price).

A better deal than the imported Anchor is Carolina in a small plastic bottle with a foil top, or foremost in a large carton. Carolina at Foodland, and the foremost at some Tesco's.

Ok, I found the big 1 liter boxes in the dairy section. The foremost was there as well, but not UHT and dated to expire too soon. I was simply looking in the wrong section of the store is all. Thanks! Now I can have real homemade sweetened whipped cream for the coming holidays.

If you can only get fresh cream you can always freeze it for later use. I use it in cooking from time to time and have done that with both fresh and UHT without any problems.

Here's a tip for the unused whipping cream:

Add some lime juice and beat it until it becomes firm. Sour cream substitute!
