Dear All, I've read all the posts related to Penang's new restrictions to maximum 3 tourist visas in a row. After those 3, the choice is either to go back home to prove you are a tourist, or...perhaps to go to your embassy in Bangkok and claim you have lost your passport? A new book with no visas and stamps will allow you to start all over again? Or do they record every visa run on a database?

Thank you for your attention,

Lusty

I am pretty sure that they can afford a computer that can keep records.

By the way,They might be reading this topic.

Nevertheless a new passport may help in the short term.

Check how long it takes your embassy to issue a new one.

Some countries can take rather a long time!!

Better not to lie about losing it, put it in the washing machine.

The detergent works wonders on all the old visa stamps. :o

It maybe be useful if a person's passport was already near full and needed a new one anyway, but getting a new passport just to get a few more tourist visas is a bit desperate.

No need to put it in the washing machine or anything - at least the UK ones - have always issued me a new one when I wanted. Just did it with some pages left as work pays for it ;-)

I would not be so desparate though to pay 460 SGD here in Singapore in order to get new Thai visa's - surely one can be more resourceful?

Why would a new passport be issued if your current one is in good condition and has pages to spare? I can understand that if it's near full.

For me to "lose" my passport I'd have to:

1. Travel to the Australian Embassy in Bangkok to apply for a new one.

2. Pay close to 10,000 baht for the new passport. (48 pages).

3. Somehow have my Thailand entry stamp "fixed".

If a passport is lost, there maybe some other requirements too.

Far too much trouble and expense to gain a few more months in Thailand.

They like the fee's for issueing a new one???

I have changed mine with years to go and pages left.

As you say though for someone like you its a lot of pain and expense. I have done it in the UK when no stamps/ visa's were concerned.

I just did it in Singapore and it took 30 minute at the Ministry of Labour to get my EP changed and new passport stamped.

Either way, the process to get a new one is the same and I would not go to that trouble to stay in Thailand. There would come a time when I would have to call it quits, and they day I need to change my passport to buy a few more months in Thailand is the day I leave.

The British Government allows a citizen to hold two valid passports at the same time.

Stop it! You're making me jealous. :o

Yes I agree with you - I said it in my first post n this thread - there must be a better way.

You have to give a reason for two passports but its not that hard. All I would need is a leter from work saying I often have to travel and sometimes while i am waiting for visa's to other countries ie China is a favourite.

In fact last time at the Embassy here in Singapore they were pushing one on me as the last one got fullish in 3 years.

Actually, I don't think there is a limit, so long as you can justify each additional PP.

My ex. boss had three UK passports, I have only two.

Quite right.

I know a journalist who has seven UK passports.

Like Crossy, I have two!! :D

I don't know whether a new passport "helps" or not. Am in the process of getting a new U.K. one (expensive or what these days-and you don't even get so much as a "good morning" from the miserable lady at the desk). I'd bet though that if you already have two/three t.v.'s in a calander year from either Vientiane or Penang that you'd be issued with a t.v. no questions asked if handing in a new passport. Whether true or not, I don't know, but the word is that "they" only check back on your visa history if have a very good reason to do so (crime suspect/paedophile suspect e.t.c.). I for one will carry on getting my t.v.'s until told to do otherwise (i.e. p#ss off or get a "proper" visa).

And continue to dress well and look like you have money...this helps. :o
