We went to visit the inlaws this weekend, who lives in the Sa Keo area.

They have a small farm there, and a pound for there watering system.

Every time they are finished pumping water from this pound they have to bring the El.motor with them as it got stolen before, but now they are going for the cable (approx 200m long) that have been replaced 2 times, due too theft.

How common is this around, and is there any trick to avoid this?

Thanks

My neighbor "lost" his UBC cable, from his home to the main road. Resell value was too high ... Solution: Satellite

Obviously not a solution for you, but this is a common problem, even in Europe, due to price increase of raw material.

We live not too far from that area and it is very common for cable and motors to be stolen. Apparently the black cable is not worth too much and is not really worth the theft risks as apposed to the white cable which is worth much more. Cable that is run along the ground is also easy to steal. We have a pump near a canal on the property, but it is bolted to concrete and is bricked in. Very difficult to steal. Our cable is run quite high through and around the trees which have thousands of red ants in them.

So far no problem any more for over a year. A year witout a theft, very unusual.

I hate to be the one to bring this up, BUT, some Thai people will steal anything. We have one 10 rai plot in the middle of no where. We had many things planted there. Everything was stolen. Peppers, melons, sweet cord and even peanuts right out of the ground. The recent heavy rains thinned out the fish population in the pond but now my wife says what fish were left are now gone. I left a partial jug of diesel fuel there by accident and that is gone too. It's disgusting to say the least. The other 10 rai plot is easily observed because of more people passing by. Unfortunately after dark it's easy pickings. There are many somoh trees there and all the fruit has also been stolen. They have not gotten around to stealing the fish from that pond yet but I expect it to happen. I have pretty much decided that if no one is there guarding things 24/7, everything will be stolen. Bastards!!

I love a puzzle!

Would it be within their means to provide fuel if you bought them a portable diesel/gasoline pump? Which they could take home.

If not you might consider hiring a contractor to bury the cable for them, but this has to be done properly as potential thieves may just connect a pickup to the end and drive away. Of course they could bury the cable themselves, but it needs to be quite deep and done with maintennace in mind. No good if you bury 200m and thieves steel the first 20!

What is it connected to at the supply end? How come the thieves didn't steal that as well?

use 5 wire cable.

2 for current

1 for earth

2 for make a loop an the motor edge over a metal part of the motor.

in the house use 1 switch for the motor and

1 switch, relay and lamp and buzzer for the alarm.

If the loop cable get lose or broken relay fall off and switch lamp and buzzer on.

succes :o

Just what i had in mind, but it wont take long before they figure out that they can connect the cables together before the steal the pump. The same goes for the cable itself. But if it's to much hassle they will probably go to the next "victim".

As for the Portable pump, is actually a god idea, but i hate to change setup/plans due too theft.

Any other ideas?

As much as I do not want to agree. I have to admit Gary A is spot on.

Place pump on concrete with good bolds and after secure with the spanner hit them short with the welder.

Make iron cage around it and also secure wel with bolds and use the welder again.

This and the cale as i said before make that my garden pump still is there after 4 years :o
