I recently worked at a job in Thailand and received a one year multiple entry visa in my passport as well as a work permit.

I finished the job and turned in my work permit but no one asked to see my passport.

I have now been overseas for two months but will return soon.

Will the airport immigration see in the computer that my work permit is canceled and give me a 30 day tourist visa or will they simply let me in on my one year multiple entry visa which still has some time left on it.

I would really appreciate the feedback.

Thank you.

I finished work in BKK late last year, but my Non-Imm 'B' extension expiry date was not until 1 August this year. Like you, I never had to take my passport back before I left. Assuming that 'the system' would nevertheless record that the visa was cancelled, I duly obtained a Non-Imm 'O' for my weekend jaunts back to Thailand. This has caused all sorts of confusion at Swampydoom Immigration as they can't seem to figure out that the two stamps in my passport are unrelated. So my observation is that you have a good chance of getting in on your existing visa stamp.

In addition, when I left BKK for Singapore on 12 November last year - which was after 5 days overstay after the 7 day grace period would have expired - there was no problem at Departures passport control - I was just stamped out as per normal, so I assume that the computer does not tell the immigration officer whether the visa stamp is valid or not.

Having said all of that, you would be taking a risk in that if you got into any problems whilst in Thailand and were then found not to have legal visa status, I suppose you could end up in the IDC and potentially get deported / blacklisted ...

Just to confirm what Lopburi states above.

If your one year multiple entry non immigrant B visa was issued outside of Thailand, it is NOT invalidated in any way after you hand back your work permit, it is 100% valid for re-entry until the Enter Before date on the visa.

The only problem would be if you had a visa extension, which can only be issued by immigration here in Thailand, you must then leave the country in this case within 7 days of handing back your work permit.

7 days after you stopped working, you have to cancel your work permit. Your Non Im (locally issued) is void straight away. Then you get 7 days to get out ...

The Non Im is void the day you stop(ped) working, not when handing back your WP.

So:

- End of job Jan 1.

- Hand back your WP Jan 3.

- Get out by Jan 7.

If the Yearly Multiple Visa was issued outside Thailand you have no problem.

If the Visa is based on a extension but with multiple Entries than you have 7days to pack .

You have to get the cancellation slip WP10 from MOL, with that slip you have to go, within 7days , to Immigration to cancell the visa and get the 7day stamp.

It is risky not to follow the procedure as the border official might deny you to leave the country.

Firefan, perhaps you should have read carefully before opening your trap! LOCALLY!

The proper term is an EXTENDED visa. Extended at an Immigration Office in Thailand.

Might be. However, I received the first Non Im here in Bangkok at the One Stop Center. Not an extension but rather an initial visa.

And it was a multi entry visa?

Multi-entry visas can only be obtained "outside" Thailand.

Anything else is a "re-entry permit".
