cdnvic Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 This IS NOT Google's OS! Even says so at the bottom in the fine print. Just another Linux distro trying to get a userbase by playing off someone else's name.

RKASA Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Sounds like you already have a PC. Just download the linux ISO burn it to cd and run a livecd see how it sets up and how you like it, they are free. You can keep your windows even after you find a distro you like. I tried alot and then I started using PClinuxOS 2007. Which has fully replaced my XP. I now have zero M$ installs PC's have differant hardware, MS sets up easy because they make an OEM disk for the PC you buy. Just get the one linux that works best and then do alittle adjustment. Run your hardware list by the forum for each linux you might try, they will give you the set up steps or warnings if needed. I got lucky in that everything but my lexmark printer works, Lexmark has no real support for linux so its not going to work, but I didn't know that when I got it back when. Oh well. Just take your time and have fun with it. After you do get it set up you can remasdter a cd and have your own OEM disk. After you get the feel for it you can trash or keep the windows, but you won't have to buy an upgrade for the type of use you have. Also in the future if you really need a fix there is virtual windows, wine and two flavers of VM you can run linux on windows or windows on a linux or any of them from a server. All that stuff is free if ya search.

Its OS is Ubuntu There also are a large number of Google-labeled links such as Google Search, Google Documents, Google Spreadsheets, Google Calendar, Google News, Google Maps, Google Products Search and Gmail. One might guess that gPC actually stand for Google instead of Green PC based on the number of Google links bundled on the desktop, but Everex says that’s isn’t the case.
pumper Posted November 3, 2007 Author Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) I wasn't the only dope fooled by the 'goog-oh-ish' ad >> <a href="http://blogs.zdnet.com/open-source/?p=1630" target="_blank">http://blogs.zdnet.com/open-source/?p=1630</a> November 2nd, 2007 It’s not a Google PC The “Google PC” I described yesterday is not really a Google PC at all. GOS, whose Linux distribution powers the new $199 box, is a separate company from Google. All Google is supplying is a toolbar, something many Windows PCs already have. Oh, and it’s not a new PC, either. It is, as I suspected, virtually identical to the $298 Windows Vista machine Everex created for back to school sales. & Linux, Google Join Forces to Produce Viable Alternative to Windows By Angela Natividad :: Filed Under » Open Source CMS Published: Nov 2. 2007 & The new york times: A Computer That Works With Google, Not Microsoft http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/01/technolo...01computer.html & $199 PC from Google/Everex at Wal-Mart http://computerworld.com/blogs/node/6467 "google news" has 87 links of the $199 gPC .. many associating it with google.
