Hooray For The King!

Featured Replies

I just watched the procession, and it occurred to me that I would like to know the words to the song that they always play/sing for the King. We have a Thai teacher, but she seems a mite embarrassed by my request. Any takers?

Hi rose,

See:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89150 . Maybe will help.

literal translation is apparently:

Thailand is the unity of Thai blood and body,

The whole country belongs to the Thai people,

Maintaining thus far for the Thai,

All Thais intend to unite together,

Thais love peace, but do not fear to fight,

They will never let anyone threaten their independence,

They will sacrifice every drop of their blood to contribute to the nation,

Will serve their country with pride and prestige-full of victory.

Chai Yo (Cheers)

There are several songs - two national anthems, and royal anthems. The words are freely available on the net. One reason your teacher may be embarrassed is because the translation from Thai to English is difficult. There are litteral translations and interpretive ones. We studied it in our class and had to come up with our own interpretation of the anthem. A lot of the English words are unknown to Thais and consequently they prefer not to have translate it. You may like to open up a thread on it in Thai Language forum.

I am moving it to Thai Language as it is not CM related.

Oops, sorry, good idea - I didn't notice I was logged in to the CM-specific area. Thanks for the replies!

I believe what you are looking for can be found at http://david.national-anthems.net/th%5E.htm. If you click on "Lyrics" you will see a phonetic version, the Thai transcript, and an English translation. Good luck.

It is a catchy tune and I love it. Just glancing at the site above I notice 'ดุจจะ' which in my book is just 'ดุจ' although it would sound the same and the phonetic sound of 'ฤ' should be 'รึ' not 'ริ' which turns it into more of a tongue twister. There is 'Royal Speak' The first line can be translated as We, or me ,or I, ข้าวรพุทธเจ้า ka wa ra puta jow followed by ow mano le si ra gram

mano is heart sira is head; all in the dictionary, I can't translate. For Rose,

the one who started this thread, you obviously like the tune so try this and see how you feel.
