Thai King leaves hospital

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej was released from hospital today (07.11.07).

The revered king was greeted by thousands of flag-waving well-wishers as he left Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital more than three weeks after being admitted with a weakness in his right side caused by an inadequate blood flow to the brain.

Bhumibol exited the hospital in an electric wheelchair, before rising to his feet and walking with the aid of a walker as the crowds cheered.

He then pulled out a camera and began taking pictures of his adoring public.

A statement from the Royal Household Bureau said: "The king has now recovered, his blood pressure in normal, he has recovered from his colon infection and there is no longer a shortage of blood flow to the brain."

So many people turned out to see the king they lined the streets all the way to Chitralada Palace, his Bangkok residence 5km away.

Those present to pay their respects to the 79-year-old king included Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, who greeted the king on his knees.

Doctors have told Bhumibol to continue physical exercise to gain muscle strength.

Meanwhile, his sister Princess Galyani Vadhana, 84, remains in Siriraj Hospital after being admitted in June with abdominal cancer.

Thai king leaves hospital

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej waved to cheering supporters and took photographs of them as he left a Bangkok hospital on Wednesday, three weeks after he was admitted with a blood clot in his brain.

Wearing a pink shirt and blazer, the 79-year-old monarch abandoned his wheelchair and walked slowly with the aid of a walker, chatting briefly with well-wishers at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital. People, most wearing yellow, the color associated with his birthday, shouted "Long Live the King", waved his portrait and sang royal anthems as the world's longest-reigning monarch paid his respect to statues of his late parents.

King Bhumibol, a semi-divine figure respected in every Thai's home, had been recovering in hospital since October 13 and more than 1 million Thais have signed books wishing him a speedy recovery.

A majestic royal barge procession, held to celebrate his coming 80th birthday on December 5 and in which he would normally ride, swept along Bangkok's Chao Phraya river without him on Monday.
