Can You Request A Thai Visa Extension Before Visa Expiration Date?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am an American with a double entry tourist visa (60days + 60days) and I am approaching the end of my fist 60days and I want to request the 30day extention. Does anyone know if it is possible to request the extension prior to the expiration date of my current visa? Or does the request have to be done on the same day that my current visa expires? If you can do it in advance, does anyone know how many days prior to the expiration you can request the extention? Also, do they require proof of onward travel for the extention? And does a bus ticket work for this proof?

And finally, I am planning on taking a TEFL course and would need an additional 35days to get through the course, does anyone have experience requesting more than the allotted 30day extension at one time? Is it likly that this is possible? Or, is it best to just plan on going back for the additional 10days after the 30day extension?

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Yes you can and should request your extension before your stay gets down to zero. The 30 days will start at the zero date so you lose nothing. Normally they do not require any proof of onward transportation. I would do it with a week or less remaining but do not believe there is any firm rule. Do not believe you will receive more than 30 days.

It's always a good idea to go early. I usually do it at least 5 days early. If for some unforseeable reason you were refused the 30 days, it would give you some extra days to plan your next move.
