I have a friend who will be arriving here later in the month and he just sent me the following questions regarding accommodations for Pai and Mae Hong Son and a trek. I haven't ever been to Pai and haven't been to Mae Hong Son for ages so have no idea. I would appreciate it if someone in the know could let me know anything that might fit the bill. These would be couples in their 50s, and would not be backpacking it, so something nice and comfortable as he says would be nice. Contact details greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Just wondered if you had some experience and therefore good recommendations for our trip on the north.

We have 3 interests :

1) Find a nice and original, but comfortable hotel in Pai (north of Chiang Mai)

2) Find a nice and original, but comfortable hotel in Mae Hong Son (west of Pai)

3) Find a 2 days trek, with a guide, staying overnight with locals, around

not know about staying in maehongson, but there are many places to stay in pai.....and at a very wide price and comfort range.

There are guest houses both in town and at varying distances out side.....

The best option is to arrive fairly early in the day, then to go around and have a look at the guest houses.....after leaving their luggage at some where like aya's.....bike hire and minibus operator....

If they want a place outside town, then the hiring of a bike may be necessary...

It would help if your friends had some idea of their price range for accommodation .

There are also a few places which organise treks, and that is best booked personally.

The Blue Lagoon is fairly central, has good accommodation, and a swimming pool, and there are many as good...

i would advise them to go to Cave Lodge, in Pang Mappha, close to Soppong. Owned and run by an Australian bloke, John, Cave Lodge can arrange treks, rafting, they have unique accommodation and its a funky place to stay.

rooms range from about 80thb for dorm, through to about 800thb i think.

google them. they have a website.
