I ve been living in Bangkok for 2 years and when it comes to going out there s always the same "limited"choises: It s either kao san road :D or Silom  :o or Sukomwit  :D . I ve done them all!!! Question is, does anybody know of any other good pubs, bars with chilled electronic music away from the triangle of madness? Share your knowledge please

Your right Jig, haven't found anyplace in Bkk as of yet who's music environment could be called chill or ambient,

What I've done is while in Samui, etc, where most of the beach bars toggle to kick-back mode in the evening, (Chill, and many variations there of, (Deep Couch, Lounge Funk, etc), I pick up some of the better cd's (cheap, street vendor), and burn my own compilations.

Then back in Bkk or other, if the place is fairly empty the DJ or owner will play my music, it's no big deal to them as long as I'm a paying customer.

I'm sick of the endless blur of Hip Hop / House fusion crap the Q-Bar and others think is cutting edge. If you find some places in Bkk where I don't have to be holding a 600b Singha to enjoy some chill or ambient let me know. Good luck. :D

I guess the best bars, all depend on you. Age is the biggest factor.

If you are young, Thong Lor is definitely the best place in Bangkok if your looking for hot women, with ratchada 4 running a second by some distance.

There are many bars on Thong Lor but some are hard to find.

I can name at least 10 different bars on this street, where in any one of them there are more beautiful women, than all of Patpong, Nana, and the Suk 7 group combined.

But the music seems to be the same crap hip hop in every place. What can you do, that is what they seem to like.

Don't bother going around any of these places if you are over 30.

I am 28 and feel on the cutting edge of being to old, and any farang around 40 will definitely have everyone gawking at them like an animal in the zoo.

These are college bars, and the girls are not poor isaan girls, being an old moderately wealthy farang empresses them about as much as, a can of coke.

But if you are young and decent looking these places are definitely better than Suk. & silom areas.

I don't even know how some people can go these places, in the past couple of years, the amount of ugly fat girls has increased exponentially.

A friend dragged me to the Nana disco about a month ago, and I was really surprised, there wasn't a single girl in the place that I found attractive.

Never mind the fact that they are all less than reputable on top of the fact.

I went to Mystique on a weeknight after reading a review of it somewhere, and it was crap. After talking my way in without my passport (I'm 55 for crissake!!) I found a place that was nearly deserted, with only the bottom of their three floors open. I'd come to see their Moroccan-style roof garden, so that wasn't a good start. Then I found the pretentious idiots had printed the drinks menu in black on a deep red background, which made it impossible to read in the dim lighting. So I left.

...Thanks everybody for trying to help.

The conclusion is that in this huge city of 10.000.000 people unless you re a sex tourist there s not much you can do...

...Well of course you can stand with your 600 baht cocktail on your hand at bed or Q bar and do what they do: try to look the coolest and maintain your cool even after some 3 hours of detention and a drug test....

I knew it deep inside me but I didn t dare to admit it to myself.... Where is the counter culture? went on holidays to Goa?

As for the ones who want to know how old I am...well I m 35.

I should maybe start listening to the Carpenters and Dolly Parton insted? This would propably solve the problem...

Keep on smiling.... :o

That emblem you use is about as old as you are. If I remember right that is Blue Oyster Cult. Sorry don't hit many clubs in bkk. Many places may let you bring some of your own music. I have found after a few hours of drink any music will do as long as it is not rap.
