Hi, I stayed there a couple of times in the last 2 years. Paid 900 Bht per night after my wife(Thai) talked to the front desk. Included a good breakfast, choice of American or Thai, buffet.

Very close to the centre of town, 5 minute walk or easy by minibus or m/cycle taxi.

The hotel itself is getting a little tired inside but I found it very comfortable at the price. Convenient for the River Kwai bridge too which is only a short ride up the road in the opposite direction to town.

If bars are your thing there are a couple very close by and a few good restaurants too. Some used by the locals, these have the best food but generally no aircon, others for the torists but these are stiil ok.

Why dont u stay in a cheap guesthouse. There are a few good ones inKanch that have good locations and are comfortable enough. One I know about even has air con rooms. Mind you they are small but most people only stay in Kanch a few days. The one with air con rooms is set right on the river with a nice garden area and a laid back restaurant. Th eother one I kinow of has the best food in Kanch......and a nice gardenarea and good location too. If you want more info pm me.

Very good idea. Was it 'Sams Guest House'? I didnt think to mention this place. A really nice room there will cost maybe 600Bht. Aircon tv and fridge and a really comfortable clean room in a small hut of your own. Very good guest house restaurant too. Slightly further away from town but only 10 mins, close to the bridge and very near to all the best places to rent a small m/cycle or car.

Try the following.

Luxury Hotel at 350baht. Aircon. Cable TV with good vids on house channel. Clean and I think just recently opened. Stayed there about 2 months ago. AFB extra at 80baht.

So far it's one of the best valued places I've stayed at.

284/1 Sangchutoe Road.

Kanchanaburi.

034 512494

It's only a few minutes walk from the war cemetries on the opposite side of the road.

Becareful of cheap places too near the river as the noise from the longtail boats and/or floating discos can send you crazy. :o

Me think, better you drive there as transportation is a bit of a pain should you wish to see Kan & this Province, but the views are really worth it.

Unless you have a specific reason to stay in town, don't.

There are lots of nice resorts along the rivers out on the countryside. Pung Waan is one that springs to mind. Kanchanaburi town is not much to see but the countryside is very nice. Or rent a raft in the Sai Yok national park and sleep on the river. A very nice experience.

As someone mentioned, there are guesthouses that may be a better choice than the hotels in Kanchanaburi as hotel stars have a slightly different meaning there than elsewhere. One popular guesthouse in town is "Jolly Frog".
