Phimai Help

Featured Replies

Ok, well its been quite some time since I've posted on this board, but I remember a few expats are in the general area and I'm in need of some help or advice.

Basically, I have a need to either rebuild a place in phimai or just take down the old one and build something new. Here's the real issue with not being able to be there full time, we are worried that things will go the way many things do in thailand, as you guys know trust without verification normally ends up with that trust being misused.

Before anyone says anything about the warnings signs, I'm not new to thailand or the way things happen...also this isn't a case of building something for some bar girlfriend, this is for my family whom I've been a part of for the past 7 years or so. I'm well aware of how things work, so please spare me the advice of the farrang who got taken for a ride..that's not me.

This is a serious subject for me, the woman who this is for was the person who raised my girlfriend and was treated very badly by some of the family that has since moved on...it is our heartfelt desire to help this woman out as we have the ability and desire to do so..

We have made the decision that we will come out together to get things going then my gf will stay behind during the rest of the building phase, one of my concerns is that everything will be one way then it will change if I'm no longer present..guess I'm a little conerned that my gf won't know what to do after I leave, but I realize I can not stay away from my work for long enough to make this happen.

We would like anyone who is in the area to help out if they can with contacts with people they have used for building. The property is right intown and would be something we would hold onto down the road, but we want to make something happen for a lady who has no one looking after her..she's old and has been abandoned by the family who was once living in phimai. We have family there now visting and the reports are that the house is falling apart around her and its really not something we can live with, knowing that we can help.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.

hi im currently having our house built by alan the builder. we are sort of in a similar situation to yourself. my wife and i are working in the uk at the minite to finance the project. we hve been in the uk since march and are coming home to surin 28/12. we are having our home built in stages. we also got all the horror storys of how things could go wrong if we werent there to check on things. uptil now not been any probs and will be 50% complete when we get home. we get regular updates and photos from alan when there at our place working. not saying alans the cheapest but if your not going to be there alot while the builds ongoing the extra cost should far outway the hassle you might get from thai builders working without your supervision. the biggest problem has been from my wifes family trying to interfere, my wifes had a lot of hassle becuase of course all her brothers are "builders tilers electritions etc" this is something you need to think about before you start. check out f.c in surin few ex pats there all got homes just need to ask around and weigh up your options
