sbk
Well, maybe we should move it to another thread for younghusband's sake but a quick answer would be that yes, of course vote buying occurs in the South --does everywhere in the country AFAIK, amongst the poorer sorts. But Thaksin made it clear that his populist policies and help were only offered to those who voted for him, and even stated so quite blatantly. A perfect example, and one that solidified anti-Thaksin feeling in the South, was his reaction to flooding in Hat Yai compared to his reaction to flooding in Chiang Mai. CM got aid from the govt and a flying visit in one day, Hat Yai waited a week. He never stood a chance in the South after that. So, I am not sure what the hold is by the Dems, but the South has been Dem as long as I've been here, Thaksin, with his policies and attitudes solidified their lead and Southerners hatred of him. As for the idea that the Nation reported this poll as news, well so did the Bangkok Post so I am not sure why younghusband reserves his vitriol to the Nation.
