Maybe this have been a topic here before but I could not find it on a search. I would love to hear (read) what Thai would write about us in a forum like this on, things that we do or say that get under their skins.

Farang logic for example

A Thai friend of mine once told me that what really annoy him is when farang think they know everything, they know what is right and wrong, no Thai can teach them anything, they always know the best way to do something.

It would be nice to know their feeling about us the same way some of us express ours here.

I think there is a web site--pantip.com? or something like that and it has a lot of stuff on it. I don't know for sure, but someone maybe able to post comments from sites.

The complaint I get the most often is about my temper. I'm not a violent person, at all, but I used to be rather quick tempered and quick to speak my mind. After several years, I began to tone it down because it ABSOLUTELY didn't get me anywhere and most of the time it made life worse!

I can't believe the am't of anger I end up swallowing, although I must admit it's been good for me because over the years I've actually learned to be less upset and stressed.

I now reserve my angery rants for when I am alone in my vehicle and can scream at other drivers (and a few rants for TV, of course).

Good thread and I hope we hear from some folks in the know.

you've got people of all personality traits, your wingers(a good% of thai visa members), your macho's, your know it alls, political zealots and your genuine nice (LaoPo) people. If your able to sort out the decent posts from the cr*p then it's not to bad in most forums. I think the majority of Thai's take farang's on a 1-1 basis, meaning they know there is good and bad in all of us. Only those making the rules annoy me!! People like Amarin Khomen that have a real drive to ensure farang's never have any decent rights in this country really rub me up the wrong way.

I was going to add 'pot calling the kettle black'. I find it excruciatingly difficult to teach some of my staff anything . . . after a few hours (of a one-week training) they tell me: Never mind, I know now. Don't worry . . .

Another one wanted to learn how to use a pc . . . after 20 minutes she refused any more help because: Never mind, I know now. Don't worry . . .

There are quite a few Thai language forums out there but I seriously doubt they obsess about us as much as we obsess about them. I also doubt they make broad sweeping and insulting generalizations in the same manner that many posters on this site do.

As jay said, most of the Thai people I have met over the years do tend to take farang on 1-1 basis.

I'm not too sure about that one. Due to some of my work, i have to visit Thai langauge forums quite a lot and have been pretty astonished at how vulgar, insulting and generalizing Thais on the Internet can be. Actually, much worse than tv/forums. I think it because of the Thai mentality, they are conditioned to surpress their angry, so when they visit an anonymous forums they have the opportunity to let off steam.

At pantip/forums especially, i have read a lot of anti-farang rants - the kinda stuff you would never hear on the streets.

Since i write a lot on the Net, some of my stuff has been linked to Thai language forums. I have been the victim of countless Thais up in arms screaming at the ignorance of the farang writer, after one of the forumists has spotted something i wrote which he felt was derogatory of Thais.

I wrote sarcastically once about a well-known Japanese actor i had worked with and after his Bangkok based fan club found out about me taking the piss, i was on the receiving end of a few death threats!

Nah....a lotta Thais are as nasty as hel_l on Thai langauge forums....believe me!

Stephen, do you think they dedicate as much time and energy discussing farangs and how stupid they are as much as TV'ers do? I mean, if you were to tally the threads, do you think you'd find greater numbers than here?

I don't doubt you, I don't read the Thai language forums, and as I said, my husband doesn't bother with them, but it does seem strange to me that given how few Thai people really have any kind of extended contact with Farangs that they would spend any serious amount of time discussing them.

No, they certainly don't spend as much time discussing Farangs as the members do of Thais here. You will find that the anti-farang rants on Thai language forums have been ignited because of an article - for example, say on a Farang sex-orientated website which sees Thai women in a bad light, such as they are all money-grabbers etc....

For ratio, in regards to threads, heavens no - the Thais don't do that much bickering!

only one exception - that u can be sure that the response will have to be taken with care - cause those living, studying overseas have a very differing background then those here .... not to forget insight and a very different education to ba taken into account!

Many Thais think that Farangs in Thailand constantly complain about all things Thai.

Many Thais believe that Farangs have no respect for their monarchy. (Like that YouTube incident)

Some of the Thais are suckers for govt propaganda and blame the West for their economical miseries.

there is a thai section on thailand uk but it is of course, mainly the wives of the english guys who use the forum too. My husband has access to it but says it's just mainly thai women talking about silly women things like how to stop their farang hubbies from snoring, a bit like our ladies secton but I doubt nay, in fact know, that thai men don't bother to go trolling in there like some farang guys like to do on ours

My guess is that they probably do rubbish us to some degree or another but they probably hold back the most until they talk about us living in their country and wanting to do things our way without realising that a lot of Thais are reliant on our being here, either directly or indirectly.

An often quoted passage I recount to people is after showing and explaining what I wanted them to do I ask them if they understand. They indicate that they do. I then ask them to tell me what I asked them to do and they say they do not know. That is not funny, it is insulting.

I suspect they ask why we ask why all the time, why we have to have a resolution to a situation or problem. Why we don't believe in that mai pen rai rubbish etc.

Perhaps they ask why we care that our cars are damaged by their bikes or why we think people should stick around after an accident or have insurance or even a license ?

Or perhaps they don't care and why should they ? We get the benefits of living in their country as long as we allow them to rule by fear and not by law. If it were so bad why would we all want to be here ? the fact that we have wives and husbands and children matters not one iota, only what we can bring, be parted with and leave behind. I really hope that there are discussions about visas, the rights of westerners, the desire for people to vote with their heart and not their pocket. I hope they relish a Thailand without corruption and nepotism where the poor have a chance to rid themselves from the shackles of poverty but I suspect that they do not.

I am for long time here in the tourism industry, the points u mention are exactly the same things which drive me "up the ceiling" again and again!

There are exceptions thought (thanx the lord!)

but in general.... till today I only can guess what it really is - it always works the thai-thai way... it's some sort of ignorance, of no farang! attitude!

maybe some sort of 'revenge' to show that without their compliance we cant get anywhere.... sort of.. thing..!

Thais do seem particularly susceptible to propaganda. No doubt a product of their education system.

BTW That has got to be the weirdest avatar I have ever seen. I didn't understand it so googled it. Does it really relate to bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), and blue sildenafil tablets which are used to treat the erectile dysfunction which can result.

With their 'mai pen rai' philosophy, it does not appear that most Thai's waste their time thinking about what they don't like about farangs or what farangs think about them. It seems to be more of a farang concern than Thai. My wife occasionally goes on the Pantip forum and the Thaicabincrew forum and says there is very little talk of farangs unless it has to do with a visa problem. She is also a member of TV forum and reads it occasionally and since she is as fluent in English as I am so I just asked her what she thought about all the farang talk on TV forum. Her only comment was "interesting with some good stuff but also a lot of bullsh*t" . I must admit I cannot dispute her statement as I enjoy reading both the good info and bullsh*t.

Pantip is a gathering place for vulgar people. Average people who can't take vulgar posts should not visit there.

During the last admin led by T., especially when there started to have people criticizing T., this website then had a lot of vulgar hired guns spewing trash at the opposition. They are still here in force nowadays. DailyNews political forum, along with a few other newsmedia forums are totally taken over by them.

If you think comments about farangs are bad, visit what they do to Mr. T's opposition. They reserve the worst trash to anyone criticizing Mr. T.

I just found this by chance. It's a Thai/English Internet Forum for Thais living in California.

As you will see, some of the language used there wouldn't be permitted here. Here are Thais discussing a Thai woman in The States who has fallen in love with a black guy. Be warned a couple of the commets are a bit racist.

And who said that Thais don't bad mouth each other on Forums!
