German gets 9 years for child sex abuse

A German national was found guilty Friday of sexually abusing five Thai minors and sentenced to more than nine years in jail.

Jorg Rudolf Fiedler, 43, was found guilty of molesting and raping five minors under the age of 13 and sentenced to nine years and four months in prison, said Judge Udom Saenboonsiree of the Bangkok Criminal Court.

Fiedler appealed the verdict and was freed on bail.

Fiedler, who was reportedly on Interpol's list of wanted child molesters, was arrested in Pattaya on March 17, 2006, on charges of sexually abusing the five children, both boys and girls, at the popular Thai beach resort.

The Criminal Court Friday sentenced a Geman paedophile to four years and eight months in jail for having sex with two Thai girls under 13 years old.

Jorg Rudol Fiedle, 43, was found guilty of having bought sex from the two girls at the Natural Beach Pattaya Hotel in November 2002.

The court initially sentenced him to seven years in jail by commuted the jail term by one third after he confessed having bought sex from the two girls.

The man appealed against the ruling and was detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison pending the Appeals Court's decision whether to grant him release on bail or not.

BANGKOK, Nov 23 (TNA) - A Thai court on Friday handed down an eight-year jail term to a German man found guilty of sexual abuse charges against underage Thai girls.

Jorg Rudolf Fiedler, a German citizen, whose arrest had been sought by the Interpol for similar charges committed overseas, was convicted of having sexually abused at least five boys and girls in Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi between November 1, 2002 and February 23, 2005.

Bangkok-based Criminal Court judges said the defendant was found guilty on all charges and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, but later commuted the sentence to eight years and 6 months in jail, citing the defendant's confession during the trial.

Mr. Fiedler was 50th on the Interpol black list and one of the world's most-wanted paedophiles. (TNA)

BANGKOK: The Thai Criminal Court today convicted a German man of sexually abusing five underage girls and sentenced him to nearly five years in prison.

Jorg Rudolf Fiedler, 43, was convicted of raping and illegally detaining the girls in the beach resort town of Pattaya, 150 kilometres (90 miles) southeast of Bangkok, a court official said.

The court said the man had brought a friend to rape the girls, aged 11 to 13, while he took pictures of the act and posted them on the Internet. He paid the girls US$ 31 afterward, the official said.

The court rejected Fiedler's bail request and sentenced him to four years and eight months in Bangkok's maximum security prison.

Fiedler had been living in Pattaya for the last 10 years and was married to a Thai woman, the court said.
