Teh acting Director-General of Excise Tax Department, Col. Surapol Supradit (สุรพล สุประดิษฐ์), says the excise tax reduction will be for people who use eco-cars. He says the plan is in compliance with Cabinet's resolution on June 5th, 2007. According to the resolution, the excise tax reduction will enable car manufacturers to distribute eco-cars next year. In addition, a certified eco-car must have no more than 10 passenger seats, and the cylinder for eco-cars with benzene engine must not exceed 1,300 cubic centimeters. As for eco-cars using diesel, the cylinders must not exceed 1,400 cubic centimeters. To comply with the regulations, car manufacturers must submit their certificates to guarantee their qualifications of energy-saving cars issued by the Ministry of Industry.
