I've just done a round trip to Ha Noi with Nok Air and am happy to report they are not bad and an all round pleasant experience with a few observations.

They should be called Now Air as the cabin is so cold I had to wear a jacket.

Brand new 737-400 'planes.

Flights both ways were 20 minutes late taking off but both arrived at the scheduled time (from wheels rolling to wheels landing)

Getting on and off in Bankok is a pain as they have to get the 400 passengers to/from the 'plane on 2 number 20 seater minibuses! (At Ha Noi the 'plane is parked at a gate.)

Seating is allocated and can be reserved online.

My wife has flown Air Asia a couple of times and reckons Nok Air is better because of the seat allocations, Air Asia is like getting on a bus (not knocking Air Asia here as she reckons the flights / service / timings are the same)

I like Nok Air better 'cos it's half the cost of Air Asia (which itself was 2/3 of the cost of Thai / Vietnam Airlines the last time the missus flew)

I would recommend Nok Air to anyone.

I always fly them. Nok Plus is excellent vfm.

Wasn't aware they flew to Vietnam and certainly didn't know they put 400 pax on a 737.. Do hey cling to the wings?

I would think they can do cheap flights from Thai the money they make at BKK for excess baggage, coming back from UK last month with Eithad {lovely plane and service by the way, cheap too} was in the Coral class and allowed 20kg per person, times 3 thats 60 kg, we booked a ticket with nok air to Udon, and then went to Don Muang for flight, when booking in we were told 15kg max so we had to pay an extra 750 bht for luggage, and i think the cabin bag allowance is 3 kg, and 7.5 on Eithad, which they didnt weigh.

Im not moaning or whinging, Just thought id let you good folks know this, Thanks, Lickey.

Yes it was good to be back in Ha Noi although the time was too short. It's reminded me about all the things I like about VN (and a few of the dislikes too).

Just booked my tickets for Tet too.

Another advantage of Nok Air is that you can book online and pay cash at 7-11 or through your bank ATM machine. No credit card details required at all.

egg - I've had busted hard shell suitcases flying Thai Air to Ha Noi AND Singapore, it's not only Nok Air that can do it.

I always fly Nok Air CM-BKK. I noticed this morning we were "hijacked" by a load of Brits! Pilot was a Brit, co pilot a Brit (I think) and one of the cabin staff a Brit.

Maybe Branson is looking for a new takeover!!

I think this morning it was a 737-800, seats are quite small and very little leg room but otherwise fine.

Nok Plus would have disappeared it seems.

Boeing 734 (which is a 737) fits 128 passengers in economy and 28 in business class or Nok Plus. Nok air does not fly bigger aircraft. A 744 fits 400 plus passengers which Thai uses but not NOK Air.

The safety instructions stated the 'plane was a 737-400. So I assumed that meant there were 400 seats and as it was full, 400 passengers.

had a little hassle booking my next flight with Nok Air.

Did it online and poted for teh pay at 7-11 but when I went to pay they wanted to charge me 600 baht more than stated on the booking confirmation.

Queried it with Nok who told me there is a problem with their system and to pay the extra and they would refund the difference to my bank account. I declined this offer and the lady rebooked me with payment through ATM which went OK.

A minor inconvenience as 7-11 is downstairs to me but I was going out shopping anyway and there was an ATM handy.

Anyway, very polite and helpful service from the end of the 'phone.
