A couple of questions re: retirement visa criteria.......and i did a search on thaivisa and didn't find answers

1] can a joint [fixed term]savings account with Thai wife qualify for the 800,000bhatt requirement??

2] and what about investments [mutual funds thru a Thai bank] qualify for retirement visa??

3] or are there any other higher interest alternatives that will satisfy immigration's 800,000 bhatt requirement??

Thanks in advance for any [legal] alternatives to the low interest rip-off rates that i am now receiving on my Thai savings account.......

Normally a joint account with legal spouse is accepted I believe. Fixed deposit accounts seem to normally be accepted. Mutual funds (stocks) are not accepted in my understanding.

The way around it is to use income rather than bank deposit; if you have that option.

A joint account is only acceptable if the amount in it is doubled as the account is in the name of 2 people. This means you would need 160000 bht

Have an account in your name with the 3 month 800000 requirement. Your wife can then get a year visa as a piggy back to yours thus eliminating the need for the doubled amount or her to have 800000 in own name account. Note that common law marriages are not recognised in Thailand. For her to have visa as piggy back you have to produce original marriage certificate, birth certs etc. Photocopies not acceptable

Yes, married [with children] and just wondering if there are alternatives to the low interest savings account that i currently use???

Ask your bank about the fixed interest rates. Should be around 2.5 %.

2.5% is better, but still doesn't keep even close to inflation here. i had heard about a 'money market' account that has a floating interest rate that i may inquire about. I'm currently getting 4-5% in the us money market, but i'm stuck with bhatt here in LOS that is loosing.
