Hi everyone

as my bad luck would have it, i need to get a new visa and had planned to leave my passport at the Thai embassy in Vientiane on the 24th Dec for pickup on the 25th. now i hear that elections may have an impact on the Thai Embassy's opening days.

can anyone tell me if Thai embassies will be shut over the Christmas period? and if so, which days exactly?

thanks a lot.

Hi

I've just come back from Laos and found that the Thai Embassy was indeed open on the 24th (and 25th). I wonder what gave Mr Manchester the idea it wasn't.

Hopefully, most people know that information or advice posted on this forum should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Could I just remind people that if they aren't 100% sure of what they're talking about, they should refrain from posting supposedly correct information. Particularly when it comes to visa issues, where people could stand to gain or lose considerable amounts of time or money.

cheers

Naw, I think Mr Manchester just guestimated that the embassy would be closed on the 24th, as this was a (public?) holiday in Thailand this year, following the general election on the 23rd. Government offices etc. were closed, or had opening hours like it was a Sunday. And diplomatic missions are usually closed on the home country's public holidays. Phone the diplomatic mission if you want to be 100% sure whether an embassy or consulate is open on a SPECIAL holiday.

Funnily enough, the embassy in Laos wasn't closed, probably because it would have been nonsensical, as people in Laos weren't eligible to vote in Thailand's general election and didn't need to travel to Isaan to vote.. :o

Actually, I don't understand why people would want to rely on forums to get information about opening dates and times of embassies, just call them and find out from the source...
