A 60 day Tourist Visa costs around 2000 Baht. This can be extended for a further 30 days for 1,900 Baht at any Immigration office in Thailand.

If you want to do it this way then you can pop over the Laos border and come back twice more. That would give you 3 months total and that would be your limit. Any longer and you would need to buy a Visa.
