Dear all

This is a long shot, but anything is worth trying....

My daughters cat went missing from our Moo Baan (Lanna thara off the Hang Dong Road going towards the Night Safari) last week. She is completely distraught and has not stopped crying since - hence I am desperately trying to find him. :o

He is an all black, one year old male cat with a red collar with 'Liverpool' printed on it. He is extremely friendly and will go to anyone (that, I believe may be the problem). If anyone in that area could keep a look out for him I would be extremely grateful. Email me if you have any news.

Many thanks

I'm so sorry, it's hard when a pet goes missing and you don't know what happened.

I had a cat here several years ago, it went missing for almost a month. It arrived one day out of the blue at the front gate, a bit tatty but OK....I have no idea where it went.

Cats do sometimes do this - I hope your daughter will soon be happy again.

I will keep my eye out.

Hope you find him soon.

edit: Can you provide his name? or prefer not to.

Sometimes cats are not far away but just not visible.

They are not like like dogs that come running with their tails wagging.

I had been feeding a cat that a close by neighbour didn't really own but had adopted.

She thought the cat had disappeared but it had actually adopted us.

Its only when cats cropped up in the conversation that she realised her cat had moved in with us and I realised it was sort of hers.

The other thing is of course female cats, there might be a nice one close by, in which case the cat will probably be back in a week or two.

Hope you find it soon.

I'm very sorry for you and especially your daughter.

You write he's a 1 year old male cat, meaning he's not neutered yet? Because in that case it is very possible he's around doing his business, and that he will return once he's finished. But as uptheos and cmsally say, this can take a while.

With cats it's always better to spay or neuter them as soon as possible. On the pet forum you can find several threads explaining why.

If your cat returns, then it is also advisable to bring him to the vet for a check up as there is a lot of leukemia and FIV under the cats roaming the streets (both owned and strays). Especially male cats are prone to get infecting during fights over the females.

Very sorry :o . However there is a very good chance he's decided the tucker's better somewhere else. Even more likely he is looking for a girlfriend.

Male cats can be neutered at 6 months. In some countries it's being done at under 6 months now as no problems arise and the younger the better in terms of preventing some of the more unpleasant male cat behaviours, as well as roaming.

Check for fleas and ringworm, too, on Max's return.

Is your phone number on the collar ? If not, may be an idea.

Meanwhile, have you put "missing cat" posters around your locality ? Not sure how old your daughter is; if very young you could do this together. Put a photo of Max (or drawing) and the info in English and Thai. Mention an "appropriate" reward for any helpful information.

And I hope to read very soon that Bad Max is back.

The Cat Came Back

(Version 1)

Written By: Harry S. Miller (with later folk additions)

Copyright Unknown

Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own

He had a yellow cat which wouldn't leave its home;

He tried and he tried to give the cat away,

He gave it to a man goin' far, far away.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The man around the corner swore he'd kill the cat on sight,

He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;

He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,

Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note,

Told him for to take it up the river in a boat;

They tied a rope around its neck, it must have weighed a pound

Now they drag the river for a little boy that's drowned.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going up in a balloon,

He told him for to take it to the man in the moon;

The balloon came down about ninety miles away,

Where he is now, well I dare not say.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going way out West,

Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best;

First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail,

Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat it had some company one night out in the yard,

Someone threw a boot-jack, and they threw it mighty hard;

It caught the cat behind the ear, she thought it rather slight,

When along came a brick-bat and knocked the cat out of sight

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

Away across the ocean they did send the cat at last,

Vessel only out a day and making water fast;

People all began to pray, the boat began to toss,

A great big gust of wind came by and every soul was lost.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

On a telegraph wire, sparrows sitting in a bunch,

The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch;

Climbing softly up the pole, and when she reached the top,

Put her foot upon the electric wire, which tied her in a knot.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat was a possessor of a family of its own,

With seven little kittens till there came a cyclone;

Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around,

The air was full of kittens, and not a one was ever found.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The atom bomb fell just the other day,

The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;

Russia went, England went, and then the U.S.A.

The human race was finished without a chance to pray.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

THANKS everyone for your useful advice. :o

I put posters up around the moo baan yesterday in thai with his photograph offering a reward for his safe return - these were also given to the maids, gardeners and builders.

One of the builders working on houses at the far side of the moo baan late yesterday afternoon heard a distressed meowing at the other side of the outer wall. He climbed over and to our relief it was Max!!!! The poor little fella could not get back into the moo baan as the wall was too steep to get over. He was tired, frightened and hungry but apart from that in one piece. The builder got his financial reward and my daughter got her beloved cat back - so everyone is happy :D

I have absolutely no idea why he ended up so far away as he never strays from the garden. He was neutered at seven months old hence I would not think he would be attracted by the ladies? Although he has had all his immunisation injections, I am taking your advice and taking him to the vets today for a thorough check up.

I am so glad to report a happy ending.... thanks again for your support.

Great news! I'm glad for all of you that this has a happy ending. :o

It is possible he did wander outside the garden and he got frightened by another cat , a dog, car, bike or what ever, that he took a run right over the wall.

P.S. Think neutering does not completely eliminate roaming, or not in all cats.

Sexual maturity usually occurs around 6 months, so perhaps there was a short period in which he developed his interests (just speculation).

Although, some unaltered males may become sexually interested as early as 6 months of age, usually they reach full sexual maturity between the age of 9 to 12 months. In females this is aroud 10 months (7 to 12 months) of age, although pregnancies at an earlier age have been recorded. There are differences between the breeds, however, such as the Persian which may have problems to mate until well into their second year.

I often wish I'd got neutered at 7 months.

If so I'd be worth millions of dollars now having spent 80% of my money on wine, women and song. The other 20% I wasted.

awww great news! :D

Is this in regard to Blinky's proposed neutering, or the return of the cat. Both would seem to be on something of a par! :D:o

Wonderful news!

Once upon a time we had a neutered male cat named Max -- a cat with an attitude. We moved into an exclusive country club community, kind of an Amercan Moo Baan, and he promptly "went missing" (to use the British expression). We notified all the groundskeepers, security people, country club staff, etc and walked all thru the community expecting to find a dead feline.

Two weeks later, I drove home, to be greeted with an excited security guard at the gatehouse of the Moo Baan (oops, I meant CC comunity). She said the club staff found our cat and put him into our courtyard. They all knew we'd specifically designed this courtyard to be "cat proof", with custon-made wrought-iron fencing designed to keep cats IN not OUT of of the courtyard. I figured they'd found someone else's cat and tossed him over the gate into our courtyard.

Turns out it was Max! He had quite a story and meowed all evening. He lived under the shrubs and dined on leftovers from the staff of the restaurant at the country club. We went to thank them and learned Max liked steak, lobster and baked potatoes with much butter and sour cream. We figured they returned him because he'd run up our club bill beyond its limit!

He died of old age at 24 years. He was a Siamese cat.
