December 8, 200718 yr Can anyone tell me the best way to change baht into sterling to get the best rate? I've seen the exchange rates in Thailand around the 70 mark.... I'm sure I should be able to get somewhere closer to the 62 that XE.com is giving.
December 8, 200718 yr Author Change it before you get here if your not already here! I'm in Thailand now... but I'm asking about changing baht -> sterling. Thanks.
December 8, 200718 yr well then change it before you leave. the figure you get on XE.com is the offshore rate. If you wire cash out of Thailand, it will be transferred at the onshore rate (ie 70) due to capital controls. If you are simply talking about cash, then to change it back in the UK at a high street exchange would mean getting a rate higher than 70 baht to the pound, plus a commission taken, and a minimum charge (eg 3 pounds).
December 8, 200718 yr Hi I was told to take T Cheques, you will get about 70baht, some give 71. The banks in the UK are only giving approx 65 to 68 max. Depending on how much you are taking to make it worth it.
December 8, 200718 yr Go to a money changer and inquire. I changed some baht to US$ one time and got a better rate than the bank with less bother.
