cm-happy
Does the Thai gov't issue saving bonds, similar to those of other Nations? If they exist can farangs purchase them, and what is the rate of return? is it better than what the banks offer, can they be used to satisfy visa requirements? jbaldwin
Yes - the Thai Government does issue 3 year savings bonds. There is an issue every month and they are sold though branchs of Bangkok Bank. They return about 0.25% above the yield on a standard government bond of the duration. On the last issue the yield was 4.25% They are only available to Thai citizens and those with perminant residency

When I asked about government savings bonds at Siam City bank today they said they are called Phanthabat Omsap and are only available once in a blue moon. 2 year and 4 year, 4.2% and 4.6% interest respectively. camerata
Thanks. The BOT savings bonds are obviously different from what Siam City told me. Anyone know if they withhold tax on the interest?
