Khon Kaen -> Chiang Rai

Featured Replies

I am going to be visiting in January and will need to get from Khon Kaen to Chiang Rai. I'm guessing it will be by bus, so an Aricon would be nice. Your thoughts on how to do this are appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes I did. I'll look again.

1.there ARE only AC buses left, since this century or so. Oh bless the old Thaivisa expats who seem to think nothing has changed since they came in at '88.

2.so go to relevant busstation when in Khhaen, ask around, go very early for a daytime trip, or come hen u want for overnite (but dont lave that too late), choice of the normal 2nd and 1st cl=VIP bus. choose latter, around 600 THB now. arr next morning, at surpirse, the busstation in CRai.

Actually, there are still non air conditioned busses.

There are two bus stations in Khon Kaen. You'll want to go to the air conditioned bus terminal, as opposed to the regular bus terminal.

VIP bus is what you want. You can book in advance, but only for trips the same day.

There are a couple of companies that will have service to the North. Have someone check for the times. You will have more choices if you go to CM and transfer there.

There are probably some air conditioned busses going there from the regular bus station, but they won't have a toilet on board.

10 and a half hours KK to CM, plus the additional time to CR.

I went ahead and booked a flight from Khon Kaen to BKK the back to Chiang Rai. That seemed a whole lot easier.
