I am a UK national and therefore get the 30-day tourist visa exemption. However, is it possible for me to pay for a Tourist Visa (in my case not in my home country) and be allowed to stay 60 days (extendable to 90)?

If this is the case, what happens if I leave Thailand during that time and come back a couple of days later? Do I have to get a new Tourist Visa for re-entry or does the old one still apply?

You SHOULD be able to get a tourist visa outside the UK, depends exactly where you are, some embassies are more friendly than others.

The visa is valid for the number of entries marked on it (usually 1 or 2 for a TV), leaving and returning will use up an entry.

To avoid using entries for a short overseas visit you will need to get a re-entry permit at immigration or the airport (IIRC 1000Baht plus a couple of photos), this will protect your original entry stamp.

Unless you obtain a re-entry permit prior to leaving Thailand (1,000 baht) the visa/entry will be gone. If you pay for the re-entry permit you can return with the same permitted to stay until date that your originally had.
