Ok I am new to this forum but have a delemma in which I hope someone out there can help. I have been living in Bkk. for the past 4 months. My visa status is tourist. I am married to a Thai national and my marriage is registered and I have the certificate(s). I have one more entry to use on my tourist visa therefore i need to change my visa status soon. I was all prepared to start work in Bkk with Chula U. who wants me to sign a 1 year contract (like most schools) but we just found out that my wife is pregnant. We planned to move to Surin in the near future to be closer to family. My wife and I decided that it might be a good idea to relocate sooner rather than later. Her dad owns a plastics business and mom is a school teacher. My father-in-law offered to help me with a work permit but does not know how to go about doing this (nor do I) since he only employs Thais but the offer still stands. My questions is can her dad "employ" me and would this be enough to get a marriage O or a non imm. B. (I think his company is worth around 3 million baht?) I really don't want to teach full time just to get a non B plus work permit. I plan to teach part time and I run a small online business (registered offshore) but I only make a small profit from it at the moment. I would legitimately be working for my father-in-law helping with his accounts and other book work but I know he cannot pay me 40,000 baht at this time (nor would i expect him to). Any and all suggestions to help me stay in this country would be appreciated!!!! thanks. :o

1. You can extend your current stay 60 days with an extension on the basis of

7.23 In case of entering for

visiting a Thai wife /

husband or child.

The permission shall be

granted only one time with

the granted period not

exceeding 60 days.

2. You do not need employment to obtain a non immigrant O visa - that you can obtain with marriage certificate and copy of wife ID card from most Consulates. At some you might be able to obtain multi entry valid for one year (but generally not in the immediate area).

3. There is a lot of paperwork to hire and obtain a work permit for a foreign national and expect you should consult someone like Sunbelt for the details - it is not a DIY process for most people - especially with a business that has no experience.

4. Your online business sounds suspect - you might want to check the legalities on that also.

If her father's company will employ you and is able to obtain a work permit for you

it will help you with further extensions of a Non Imm O based on marriage, as you

and your wife will have to show a combined income of 40K per month.
