Hi,

Perhaps this should go in the thai language forum as well. Mods, if you think it would be better there then please feel fre to move the post.

When you go to a Thai restaurant here, of any kind, from expensive to street stalls, you are often given a little stand contianing 4 pots of condiments to add to your meal to enhance the flavour. I believe these are sugar (sweet), chilli (spicy), fish sauce (salty) and pickled chilli (sour).

Does anyone know what these are called, seperately and as a whole? I am most interested to know what the pickled chilli is called (clear liquid with bits of chilli floating in it). Whenever I order fried rice or noodles I love to add this to it but I am usually given 'nam prik' which is fish sauce with chillis in it. I'm not a fan of fish sauce and so always want to ask for this other kind of nam prik that usually comes as one of these 4 condiments, however I am always met with looks of total confusion. :o

I'm sure it's not the 'done thing' to splash this sauce on everything but I really like it. Any ideas?

Thanks! :D
