youngkiwi
Vertigo Restaurant in the Banyan Tree Hotel does great steaks. Very expensive but top notch in all respects - plus the view!
dekka007
I thought Vertigo was rated as the worst food with the best view in BKK? Never been since I read that review sometime ago. Edited January 24, 2008 by dekka007
HarryHacker
I thought Vertigo was rated as the worst food with the best view in BKK? Never been since I read that review sometime ago. But it has to be the best place to take a girl out on a date, just as long as she dresses correctly. I have in mind a rather good singer I met the other day! However if you had real class u would take some Japanese girls to Sirroco. Domo Arigato Edited January 24, 2008 by dekka007

Domo Arigato Keep your chin up Dekka007, you can call me Harry by the way, anyway, back on topic, avoid The RibRoom, Landmark, has to rate as my worst 'imported' steak. dekka007
The RibRoom, Landmark, Yeah heard that - Gonna avoid that place as well. Anyway the Landmark ain't classy enough for me never go there. I still rate NY Steakhouse as the best even tho some of the people on here object to being served by the so called underpaid waitresses there. However I happen to know that the girls in the NYSH are clearing over 20k on tips a month alone. And they deserve it the girls working there are top notch. jaiyenyen
Also for those that want to try, I have never been there as yet, but it has been consistantly recommended for excellent steak at good prices....is a little french restauarant in Patpong, soi 2 I think, the small one between patpong proper and soi Thaniya. Not the ideal location for a nice romantic dinner or for kids, but any other scenario should suit....it is also close to another fine establishment which I also have not tried.. ..SOL I've eaten there, the resturant that is, not the 'other place' I can't remember the name of the place but the food is very good. I had a steak last time and it was excellent, prices are very fair too. The resturant is small but very popular, so I usually walk in, book a table for later and then try and amuse myself for an hour or two before going back. smileplur
I will also vote for Neil's. I had a great imported USDA ribeye there not too long ago. It was cooked to perfection. A nice bottle of Shiraz didn't hurt either. My wife had the pork chops which were quite good as well.

I would eat there, but there is a dress code and I haven't owned long trousers for years. Saves me a pretty penny I am sure!
sceadugenga
i have tried almost all suggestions made here so far and sadly none really stand out as being anything spectacular. the best steak i've had in bkk is actually at an italian restaurant on soi lang suan called Calderazzo. ask for the t-bone, it comes beautifully grilled, bone-in but pre-sliced for you in a way that makes the huge steak fan out across the dinner plate. very impressive and very tasty with a nice touch of rosemary and pecorino. but if it is really top shelf unadulterated USDA prime aged beef you are after, the best you can do is fly 2 hours over to the Singapore branch of Morton's of Chicago, located at the Oriental Hotel, they have airflown steaks direct from the Chicago meat locker. not cheap, but good. if you are really crazy about steaks like me, make a pilgrimage to Peter Luger's or Smith and Wollenski's in New York, its definitely a religious experience. Melbourne is closer than New York and Vlados has won several international magazine best steak in the world awards. Mind you, it's about the only thing you'd go to Melbourne for. Ulysses G.
I heard that Melbourne has great pizzas?
sceadugenga
Most Australian cities have a large Italian community that makes great pizzas. The only difference in Melbourne is the other customers tend to shoot at each other while your eating them.
zorro1
This may be hard to believe but the best value steakhouse is actually a night club with 3 Filipino singers and a host of B/gs. Its the check in just up from soi 3 On Sukhumvit BKK. Yes its almost seedy but their meat is great and very tender(400bht) and an excellent wine selection. No flaming please its not the marriott but then again your not paying 2000bht either.
sceadugenga
Is that the "Check In"? I'll have a look next time I'm in town. For the steaks of course. When you say "up" from Soi 3 is that back towards Soi 5?
zorro1
Yep its in between soi3 and 5 ,Its a fun place and they specialise in steak only. I walked past it for years thinking it was just another brothel until a mate took me in for a steak.

Typical. I am sure that was just a one off though. Surprised nobody mentioned Tenderloins on soi 33.
sceadugenga
I suppose it would be easier to take the Mrs than try to convince her you were only there for a steak when word gets back to her.
pampal
the debate about the best steak is too subjective, so there is no winner for best, it all comes down to what tastes good to you.

madjbs
It's on a soi off Pradiphat road, can't remember the number. There is a map on the website http://www.timbacuisine.com Edited July 28, 2008 by madjbs

There is a map on the website http://www.timbacuisine.com Oh, thanks, that looks great. Kind of an unusual location choice for a semi-upscale steakhouse. If they are as good as they look, they certainly deserve our support (licking lips).
ericg1953
I can recommend Cherries restaurant in Pattaya. It is on 3rd rd...accross from Excite Disco. They serve a great filet, that includes a really nice salad bar for 260 baht. It is a high class restaurant as the owner worked at Brunos here for 10 yrs. I think you can pay more for something a bit better...but I am convinced this is a great meal for the money
