Hi

Anyone applied for a tourist visa for China at the PDRof China embassy in Bangkok?

Easy or problems?

Any info appreciated.

Very easy indeed, just be there at 9.00am, pick a number, present passport and application form, pay your dues (I think 2,500 for same day issuance, an da bit less for next day) and you're on your way to spending some hard earned RMB.

It is easy, I just seem to remember that every time I go they want to see an invite from a company. I have a file full of them, we just pull one and date it. Plan on spending some serious time there, long lines and big tour groups with satchels full of Thai passports.

Touring China with the escorted tour co: with the groups from NY.

In Shanghai, remember about our dinner at one of the a nice and huge place. Everyone in our group (about 70+... of us) was excited about being served Pecking Duck dish. When I saw what the waitress put on the table, I was very disappointed and quite upset. The cook just merely chopped up the whole roasted duck into small pieces, accompanied with tiny- flat- soft- buns, shread scallion, hoison sauce.

This was not the dish of Pecking Duck I was experiencing many times before in NY, HK or BKK.

It where they served you a plate of cut-up very thin fried duck skin, served with some soft small flat buns, shread scallion and hoison sauce on the side. Followed with duck meat, pan fried with beansprounts, then the soup ( use the bone from the very same duck to make broth ).

But on that particular dinner, I had learned that several of my traveling companions never in their life had tried this special dish before, indeed this was their very first. So they really believe that they were experienced the dish called Pecking Duck. This's upsetting me becase my fellows had learned the wrong facts. I blamed it on the cook, may be he thought he would get away with it, thinking that may be the tourists didn't know the differences.

Preparing Pecking Duck is enormous times consumming and complicated procedures. it takes years of practice to perfect their craft.

That's why some place just don't serve this dish anymore.
