Need Help In Translation From Thai

Featured Replies

1. ไม่อยากไปไหน ไม่อยากจากบ้านไป อาหารอร่อย ที่นอนสบาย อยากอยู่นานๆ ไม่อยากไปเลย

2. เป็นอะไรนักหนา ล้อเล่นไม่ได้ เอ๊ะอะสาบาน จะตายอย่างเดียว มึงบ้าเปล่าเนี้ย ปีใหม่แทนที่จะมีเรื่องดีๆ เซ็งจริงๆ ไอ้อ้วน

Anyone can help translate these 2 sentences for me pls? thank you

1. I don't want to go anywhere. I don't want to leave the house. The food is good, my bed is comfortable. I want to stay here for ages, I really don't want to go anywhere.

2. What's up? Can't you take a joke? Why do you make me swear on my life? Are you crazy or what? New year instead of feeling good I'm totally bored. You fat *******

Not 100% on number 2 and I can't quite comment on the tone with which this was intended. You fat ******* for example could just be fatty in a cute way.

It is bad way as the word " มึง" and from the context(unless the writer wrote it for a closed friend). It is like "you fcking pig/fat"

What is so serious? Can't joke with you? promise I'll die, Are you crazy or what? New year [eve] instead of having good things [we have this], I am really fed up! Fat ass

Looks like a note from a girlfriend/boyfriend....

lol.. yep, that's about right :o

ไอ้อ้วน - ai ooahn.

Be careful with this.

Amongst friends - you chubby / fatty - teasing, playful etc.

In general speech - fairly rude.

Cheers,

Soundman.

The only bit I had trouble with was เอ๊ะอะสาบาน จะตายอย่างเดียว could someone perhaps elaborate on this?

เอ๊ะอะ means noisy, harshly and loudly noice

เอ๊ะอะสาบาน จะตายอย่างเดียว = loudly/harshly swearing as someone(the opposite site) is going to die

Edited by BambinA

เอ๊ะอะ actually should be เอะอะ to get the right tone

เอะอะ(อะไร) followed by a verb loosely translates to "at every given chance......................." Used to express one's annoyance at someone's tendency to harp on about something or do something at the slightest provocation

eg.

เอะอะก็จะฆ่าตัวตาย = every time some little thing happens, [you/he/she] threatens to kill yourself/himself/herself

เอะอะอะไรก็อังกฤษดีอย่างงู้นดีอย่างงี้ = always talking about how wonderful England is

เอะอะอะไรก็ซื้อใหม่ๆ = every time something happens [electrical appliances in the home break down], you/he/she wants to run out and buy a new one! [instead of repairing the old one]

So... เ๊อะอะสาบาน จะตายอย่างเดียว pretty much means "every time something happens (or something is mentioned) you just keep saying you vow you'll die [if....?]"

Hope all this is understandable :o

Thanks for the help.

So it's something like: What's up? Can't you take a joke? Always promising you're gonna die. Are you crazy or what? New year instead of feeling good I'm totally bored. You fat *******

Would that mean promising you're going to kill yourself do you think?

I wouldn't say "promising". More like every time they have an argument the guy/girl threatens to kill himself/herself!

Yeah, I'll say in this case we might guess it's along the lines of "threatening to"

Wow. Khun siamesekitty: I must've found this forum after you had gotten bored, or too busy with your work...and taken a break away from it all.

But I'm very happy that you have returned: your contributions are fantastic.

Please, keep helping us, whenever you can.

Cheers. :o

Khob khun ka khun mangkorn :o

But there are several others who give great contributions here as well, I'm sure my presence (or absence) doesn't make that much of an impact as long as they're still around! :D

by the way from your comment I see you found my response in the other thread :o

Seconded, thanks to all the native Thai speakers here. Your help is invaluable.

I agree that was a brilliant explanation of เอ๊ะอะ .

As for the translation though, since we now have the gist, can I ask about เซ็ง ? Is it not more like 'fed up' or 'sick and tired' than 'bored' in this case?

Thanks for the help.

Perhaps p***ed off would be a good translation in common English.

Oops, overlooked that.

เซ็ง certainly is more "fed up" than "bored", but a bit less strong than "p***ed off". It's kinda like the "p***ed off" feeling but rather than feeling aggressive (like wanting to punch someone), it has a defeated attitude similar to "sick and tired".

It gives off a feeling of being rather displeased with something, but helpless/hopeless and there's nothing you could do about it except accept it the way it is.

Anyone knows what do you mean by this phrase : kor hai khun mee kwarm suk mak mak chen kan na?

Approximately... I wish you'll have lots of happiness as well.

I have been lurking in this subforum for a while, but today I had to register and say thank you to all the posters who share their knowledge with us, but specially to Siamesekitty. ขอบคุณมากจริงๆ :o

Thank you ElZorro, it's nice to know one's efforts are appreciated. :o
