Exporting A Small Amount Of Garments To Oz - Free Trade Agreement

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I'm sending over a box of around 200 plain shirts to Australia for a friend's shop. I'm not sure whether to send by cargo company, the Thai Post Office or a courier like TNT, Fedex etc. What would be the most cost efficient, safe and quick way?

Also, what kind of import duty will have to be paid on arrival in Aus, will it be a percentage of the stated invoice price? Will the Oz-Thai free trade agreement help me at all here?

Any thoughts/knowledge on the above, or any other info, is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Jack

Check with the Austrailian Embassy--for their international trade department's extension or phone number. They should be able to tell you the duty and excise tax rates on imported goods to Australia. As far as shipping, usually the post office is the cheapest way, however sea freight can take over a month.

No duty or excise on clothes, just GST. You may be lucky and not have to pay anything, but budget invoice value GST.

Declare it and over insure the parcel, ie include the cost of sending and reinsuring the parcel in the insurance amount.

Don't send TNT, I've used them 3 times with bad experiences each time.

You can send goods up to AU$1000 in value without incurring any customs excise or GST .

Fedex or UPS are my preferred options .
