I recently posted my annoyance with Wise banking in that it took 8 days to transfer funds from UK bank to my Thai bank account.

Given that, yesterday I decided to transfer funds via Revolut Banking and I was truly surprised to receive funds within one hour. Well done to Revolut.

Why not just transfer online direct from your UK bank to your Thai bank? How does using a 'middle-man' like Revolut or Wise, help?

I guess they are slightly cheaper for transfers, I heard if you used wise you can then afford an extra bottle of Chang in happy hour

If you're only sending small amounts then you'll only save small amounts. In very rough terms though, you'll save about 1,000 THB for every £1,000 GBP you send, which is as good a reason as any to use a specialist intermediary like Wise.

Which is probably the most expensive transfer on earth. Not the transfer fee in itself, but the currency exchange is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm using Revolut, and get loads of more baht for my money. Huge difference.

I've done transfers for a couple of years now, and Revolut without exception has taken no longer than a few minutes, before my Krungsri bank is updated.

All this fuss about Wise, Revolut has been the answer for me. Better, cheaper (no fees paid from Revolut to Krungsri, and the currency exchange is competitive).

I'm paying 17 dollars a month for my Metal abb., which gives me free card deliveries by DHL, VPN all year (NordVPN), travel insurance, purchase insurance etc. when purchasing by card, Chatgpt Go, free Tinder (for those who need that, I don't), and many other benefits.

I can be very confident that you are not sending to KBank.

Different banks have different transmission times. KBank is the best, in many other ways too. My Wise deposits into my KBank account complete in seconds 99% of the time, and minutes if not.

That's a bold statement. Krungsri Bank has been absolutely amazing for me, and I can't see anything done better or faster at Kasikorn.

I used Wise for years and was happy with it until my debit card information was leaked. That Swedish debit card was locked and had ONLY been used with Wise.

Now I use Swedish Handelsbanken-> Bangkok Bank. The exchange rate is almost the same as Wise. I lose a few hundred baht, but the transfer is safe and it takes 2 days. I can live with that.

Okay, good if you can live with that.

For comparison, from my bank in Norway, I send my pension to Revolut, received in Lithuania within 2-3 hours. The cost is 90 NOK, I click for shared fees (in fact, my Norwegian bank takes 90 kroner, and Revolut none). The full Norwegian amount arrives there.

Then I transfer that amount from Revolut to Krungsri Bank, received in under a minute, no fees, with very competitive exchange rate to baht (done by myself at Revolut from NOK to Baht). The full amount received.

So the whole thing takes 2-3 hours to arrive at Krungsri that way, using Revolut as a middle stand.

The reason I won't transfer it directly from my Norwegian bank, is that I want my kind of privacy from Norwegian authorities, and not a clear trace of where I stay or live in the world. That info is in the hands of Revolut instead.

Interesting. Looked into it, not a bad exchange rate there either. A little lower than the ones at Revolut for me, but low total fee/rate makes it a good option.

Any major differences between getting a Wise account or a Revolut account?

After months when transfers using WISE from my U.K. Bank to Bangkok Bank there was a delay of at least a day and no W.E. transfers it appears it’s back normal where the transfers are going through in seconds including W.E.s like they did before.

Don't believe that you can open a Revolut account with a Thai address, whereas you can a Wise account. That was (for me, personally) the major stumbling block I encountered when I investigated the possibility of opening a Revolut account (as an alternative to Wise) a few months ago.

@thaibreaker I've not used Revolut yet to t/f to Thailand. What does your bank charge to receive the funds? Kasikorn charges .25% min B250 max B500

My fortnightly transfers of AUD to THB into my BBL account also take only seconds - a minute, using WISE.
