A neighbour (British) in our Soi has just arrived for another visit to spend time with his Thai girlfriend and their two young children. He was here last year from August until October (71 days) and initially came on a 30 day stamp, he did two border runs to Cambodia to extend his stay during this period.

On entering Thailand yesterday at Suvarnabhumi the immigration officer carefully examined his stamps and informed him that he can only stay for 19 days, however he can get an extension!!!

Well I told him I 'm not sure on that as he has not got a visa to extend etc.

What options are available for him to stay longer??.

A tourist visa from a neighbouring country? or a visit to a Thai immigration office.

He can go Bangkok, Ayutthaya or Khorat, all not to far to drive from Ban Phu Toei

If he is listed a father the first choice would be attempt to obtain a 60 day extension from immigration (Bangkok probably the best choice) to visit child using section 7.23 of current immigration regulations and providing proof as follows:

1. Application form

2. Copy of applicant’s passport

3. Copy of census registration

4. Copy of the Thai national’s ID Card

5. Copy of marriage certificate or birth

certificate

If that fails a quick trip to Vientiane should provide a chance to obtain a normal tourist visa which would allow 60 days and a 30 day extenion
