THAI has launched some special fares for senior travellers aged 55 years and over, for travel in Royal Silk Business and Royal First Class and to Thailand and Europe. Travel until 30 September 2008.

Fares start from $3,120 plus taxes (approx $256) in Royal Silk Business Class to Bangkok from Sydney/Melbourne and Brisbane; An additional $165 (plus tax) will get you to a choice of Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani or Krabi.

THAI is flying the upgraded Royal Silk Business Class product on all flights* from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Bangkok : 2 x 2 capsule-style, forward-facing, 163 degree recline lie-flat seating, fitted with all the latest inseat entertainment options and facilities.

Seniors travelling from Sydney and Brisbane can upgrade to the unparalleled luxury and value of THAI’s outstanding Royal First Class with fares from $4,225 return to Bangkok plus taxes : enjoy renowned Thai hospitality along with premium cuisine, wines, full flat-beds in single or double configuration with a face to face dining option.

Fares from Perth start from $2,446 plus taxes in Royal Silk Class; an additional $169 for domestic Thailand destinations.

Yeah and you get the older model on the return leg if you're not careful, I did. (Although I personally find the older seats more comfortable than the fancy new pods which cause you to slide down the seat at full recline). The entertainment set up on the non-upgraded 747's (flying from Sydney and Brisbane) is old school too.

I cannot understand anyone paying 3000AUD for this, and even those who can say they can afford it - buy a ticket for 1000AUD and give the rest to charity, what a complete waste.

Seeing as most buisness/first class seats are sold to businessmen i see this as a non starter, how many retirees will have a company paying for there ticket ?,if not do you think they will pay out of their pension ! ..typical thai thinking id say,..

Yes, great for the larger person, also anyone with medical problems, I fly in and out of Thailand regular from Western Australia and always upgrade regardless of price as I have suffered DVT's in the past. No price consideration when it comes to one's life.

Yes and why pay thb 6000 for dinner when you can have noddles for thb 60 , or thb 1.5m for a car because you can buy one for thb 350k or rent an apartment for thb 80,000 when you can get some for thb 25,000 .

All people to there own , and you might be supprised that the most people making and spending a lot also do give some to charity

but even if they do not give a cent , people are entitled to spend money how they want , and Business or first is not a waste of money

if you can afford it , ask anyone where they would rather sit if they can afford to??

why? I've traveled biz and first class with i.e. Qantas several times on business, and I don't get it why people would spend thousand of thousands extra for some nippy food and a larger seat (I do understand if you are 200kg...) I am happy to travel there as I get some incredible millage points for it, but if I had a choice of getting the cash from the company and travel on economy that would be my choice. And the two times I've traveled first it was bloody awkward, there was only two seats in the front, and I felt like an idiot sitting there staring in the front wall in my silly seat ... Well, go for it if you want, but what a waste ... in regards of your analogies, well - comparing apples and oranges, doesn't really make it for me 'matey.

I fit that description. Can't really afford business class, so only fly long haul on airlines with premium economy, ruling out Thai, Singapore etc.
